Skate Night tonight
Join other Summitt Families for our first skate night on Wednesday, Sept. 28 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Playland Skate Center (8822 McCann). Which grade level will have the most students? It’s only $6 per skater, so come out and join in on the fun. They have a playscape, arcade, and skate helpers for an additional fee.

Koblenz Informational Meeting
Would you like to know more about our teacher & student exchange program with Schenkendorf Elementary in Koblenz, Germany? Please join us Thursday, October 6th at 6 pm in the Summitt library. This year our friends from Koblenz will be visiting us in late March through early April.  We will travel to Germany the following year in June 2018. See what the program is all about and how you can get involved.

T-shirt orders
The last reorder for the shirts will be in this week and all backorders will be filled. If you have not received a shirt you ordered by Thursday (9/29), please email [email protected]. Shirts can still be ordered and will be filled on a first come first serve basis until we run out.

Custodian Appreciation Week Next Week
October 3 – 7 is Custodian Appreciation Week. Please remember our custodial staff and all of the work they do for us by saying thank you to them in commemoration of Custodian Appreciation Week, October 3 – 7!!

Join the Daisies
Is your kindergarten daughter interested in joining the Girl Scouts? The Summitt Daisies are still looking for Kindergarten girls who are interested in joining our small Daisy troop. For the first year, meetings will be held once or twice a month and focus on community involvement and building friendship, courage, and respect. Fifth Grade News
The directors of the Fulmore and Kealing magnet programs and the principal of the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders will be visiting Summitt on Tuesday, October 25. They will be here from 9-10 am to make presentations about their campuses for 5th grade students. Murchison Middle School is also scheduled to send a representative to present either directly before or following the magnet schools (will update once a specific time is provided from them). Parents are invited to join us in the 5th grade commons area to hear these presentations if they desire to do so.

Soaring Skyward
Soaring Skyward Day will be on Friday, Oct. 14. We will celebrate everything involving air that day.  A big thank you goes to HEB for donating cookies for students that day. We also need the following:

  • Do you have a connection with stunt kite flyers?

  • We need volunteers to run the disc golf station during the day.

Volunteer Opportunity – Content Editors
The PTA Communications team is looking for one or two content writers to help us update the weekly newsletter and website. We use MailChimp and WordPress, and we are happy to train. Be in the know while helping everyone keep their calendar of school events organized! Our team will be meeting after school dropoff at 7:45am on Wednesday, Oct. 5 in the Great Hall. Few spots left for Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run official start: Wednesday Sept 28th and will go until our 5k run on Saturday, Dec 10th held (for the first time!) at the Dell Diamond!!  We have room for 5 more participants, so if you’re interested sign your 3-5th grade daughter up at http://gotraustin.org/programs/register/. We practice Mon and Wed 3-4:15 pm. Registration is $75 and includes 5k registration, 2 tshirts, a water bottle and a healthy snack each meeting.  Questions? Save the Date for Eagle Fest 2016
Mark your calendars for Summitt’s annual fall carnival fundraiser, Eagle Fest!  Join your school on Saturday, October 22 from 3-6pm on the Summitt grounds for exciting games, fabulous prizes, a spooky haunted house, delicious food, and lots of school spirit! Item Donations (small prizes and drinks/chips/candy)
Eagle Fest is in need of small, unopened toys from restaurants like McDonalds, Chick Fil’A, Wendy’s, and Arby’s. A toy donation box has been set in the Great Hall near the Summitt Office. In addition, every year we ask our wonderful Summitt families to help us out with food and drink donations. We sell the drinks and chips in the Food Court and use the candy, Pringles, and 2 Liter soda bottles as prizes. Signs have been set up along the wall in the Great Hall across from the office showing where to drop off your donations.

Day Care Families – 12-24 bottles of water

Pre-K Families – 12-24 Juice boxes

Kindergarten Families – 12-24 packs of Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, or Dr. Pepper

1st Grade Families – 2-liter bottles of soda

2nd Grade Families – 12-24 individual snack size bags of chips

3rd Grade Families – Halloween candy, 2lb bag (individually wrapped, no chocolate please; it will melt),

4th Grade Families – Tall Pringles Chips and 2-liter bottles of soda

5th Grade Families – Tall cans of Pringles Chips

FABPAC Update
Beginning in October, another round of community engagement meetings will be held to solicit input regarding facility condition trends, the planning strategies used to address facility needs, and a new modernization approach.

Here are the dates, times, and locations for you to provide input. These are drop in and out sessions, so you can provide your input anytime during the meeting:

·       October 11 – Eastside Memorial HS Cafeteria – (6:00 pm – 8:00 pm)

·       October 12 – Burger Stadium – (4:00 pm – 6:30 pm)

·       October 13 – Reagan Cafeteria – (6:00 pm – 8:00 pm)

·       October 14 – Allan Center Cafeteria – (12:00 pm – 1:30 pm)

·       October 15 – Small Middle School Cafeteria – (9:00 am – 11:00 am)

·       October 15 – Lamar Middle School Cafeteria – (12:30 pm – 2:30 pm)

In order to get as much representation from our neighborhood as possible, please try to attend one of these meetings to provide input. Your opinions will be folded into the planning as Austin ISD continues to work toward a ballot initiative in 2017. More information on FABPAC is here.

Adelphi Acre Plant Sale on Saturday
It’s Fall Planting Time! Stock up at the Adelphi Acre Community Garden Fall Plant Sale & Learn about Organic Fall Gardening. Proceeds from the sale go directly to the garden. It’s on Saturday, October 1 at 9 am – noon at AACG located on corner of Amherst & Adelphi.

There will be a wide variety of Certified Organic plants from local Gabriel Valley Farms Nursery.  Vegetables will cost $2 per plant, Herbs $3, CASH ONLY PLEASE. There will also be a Fall Organic Gardening 101 class starting at 10:30 am. http://www.adelphiacre.org/good-to-grow/

Fulmore Prospective Parent Sessions
Fulmore Middle School invites the parents of all 5th and 6th grade elementary students to attend one of our Prospective Parent Sessions on Thursday, October 6th, or Thursday, November 10th from 6-7 p.m. in the Fulmore Cafeteria.  Meet members of the Fulmore community and learn about the Magnet program. Information on the Magnet application process will also be shared.  Flyers are coming home and feel free to contact the Magnet Assistant, Maria Benitez Morales at 512-841-4916 with any questions.
