Book Fair next week
The Happy Camper Book Fair begins Monday, April 3 and runs through noon on Friday, April 7. If you would like to help, we need volunteers to help set up, break down and be cashiers. Please sign up here.

All for Books Change Drive
While book fair is an annual highlight for many of our students, there are those students who spend a tortured week looking at all they cannot afford. Please consider having your student participate in our All for Books change drive so that we make sure all our Summitt Eagles are able to purchase one new book of their very own. Each day this week, beginning on Tuesday, March 28, classrooms will work together to collect change.

Tuesday: PENNY-tastic Tuesday

Wednesday: 2, 4, 6, 8—We appreciate your NICKELS and DIMES Wednesday

Thursday: Big Money Thursday–Quarters

Friday: Fantastic Friday—anything and everything!!!

The classroom with the most change on Friday, March 31, wins a Make-Your-Own Trail-Mix Party and 45-Minute Reading Camp-Out in the library! Funds will be distributed amongst students throughout the week of book fair. Thanks for your support!

Incoming Pre-K and Kindergarten registration next week
Kindergarten and Pre-K registration will be on Tuesday, April 4, at 9 a.m. More information about what paperwork to bring is here: https://www.austinisd.org/event/4-4-2017/kindergarten-orientation

CATCH Family Night next week
We hope you saved the date to join us for our 9th annual CATCH Family Fun Night at Summitt. This year it takes place on Thursday, April 6 from 5:30-7 pm. We are teaming up with the library this year, so it will also be taking place during the Summitt Book Fair!

We will have fantastic booths in the great hallway that promote wellness, and we will also have many activities for you to check out with friends and family! Back by popular demand is the Parent Pacer Challenge and outdoor obstacle course. We will also have DrumFIT, an awesome new exercise program born right here in Austin!  All of those areas will be ongoing throughout the evening from 5:30-7 pm! I apologize that we will not have any vendors serving food this year… so please plan to fuel up before or after the event! Participants will have a chance to enter a raffle for some great prizes donated by our local Mopac and Parmer HEB! Winners will be announced Friday morning! Hope to see you there 🙂

Spring Fling is in 1 month
You should have received information from your Home Room Parents about your class’ Classroom Creations. Please respond quickly so that you can support them in this very important aspect of Spring Fling’s silent auction. More information can be found at www.summitteagles.com/events/spring-fling/

A couple of updates on the child care section:
Childcare is available during Spring Fling at Summitt through United Family Care Social Services. It costs $20 for the first child, and $10 for additional siblings. The price includes pizza, dessert, beverage, movie, games, etc. This is open only to parents who are attending Spring Fling, and we need at least 15 families to participate in order to make it happen. Register now as there is only space for 50 kids. More information is on the table in the Great Hall or click here for the registration form and waiver: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2U9EyoinyBNaDZhZHJVZHNDVG8/view?usp=sharing

Spring Fling will be at Abel’s North on Saturday, April 29 from 6-9 p.m. You can purchase tickets for this great parents-only event here. This is a fundraiser to pay for our technology teacher, Barbara Neill. Austin ISD does not pay for a technology teacher at this campus and we want to make sure our students know basic computer skills in order for them to succeed.

Class and individual spring pictures update
Spring and group pictures were taken on Tuesday, March 7. It takes approximately 3 weeks for your school’s picture packages to arrive. Once you receive the pictures, parents will have about 7 days to select their package options and complete the payment envelope that is included in each picture package. Payment can be made using cash, check, or by paying online at inter-state.com/order.

The payment envelope and/or any unselected prints must be returned to the school within 7 days for each child to receive his or her responsibility pencil! Once all money envelopes and unselected prints are collected, your local sales representative will stop by the school to collect these items.

Vietnam trip update
This might be your last chance to go to Vietnam during Winter Break with other Summitt families while your child is a student here. Co Thuy says they will not offer another trip for the next 5 years. The Itinerary and preliminary costs are in this file:  https://drive.google.com/…/0B2U9EyoinyBNMlNXZmJSNDhFa…/view…

Need new change of clothes for students
If your student is in grades preK-2, please make sure that your student has a ziplock bag with a change of clothes that is size and weather appropriate. Any student can need to change, whether it’s a bathroom accident, spilled milk at lunch, or a big puddle after rain. The office is completely OUT of donated clothing to provide to students who need to change. Please ensure that your student has a change of clothes in their backpack.

If it has been there since August, thank you! Now is the time to double check that it still fits. If your student needs clean clothes, and there aren’t any in the backpack, we will need to keep them in the office until a parent can bring clean clothes, which disrupts their educational experience. Thank you very much for your time and attention to this!

Need clothing donations
Summitt clothes supply closet needs to be restocked. Students receive a change of clothes when they have wet accidents or get too dirty.  If your student needed to borrow clothes from the campus, please wash and return them. Please do not return the underwear. Due to health reasons, these have to be new.  With that being stated, Summitt’s clothes stock is in need of the following items:

New boy and girl underwear – Sizes 4 – 12

T-shirts new or gently used – Sizes 4-8 and a few sizes 10-12

Pants – new or gently used – Pull-on with elastic waists work best – Sizes 4 – 8

Socks – new or gently used – all sizes

Also, Summitt’s nurse office could use plastic grocery type bags to send home dirty/wet clothes. Bring these items to the office.

Summitt Alumni Scholarship
The Summitt Elementary Alumni Scholarship is now accepting applicants through May 2, 2017. The scholarship was established to recognize former students who have excelled in their academic endeavors, supported their community through various service projects and/or participated in extra-curricular activities, and proven they possess the drive to further their education. By granting these scholarships, we encourage students to pursue their academic endeavors and hope to strengthen relationships between Summitt and its alumni. Summitt Elementary will offer either one (1) $600.00 or (2) $300.00 scholarship/s, depending on the number of qualified applicants. The deadline to apply is May 2, 2017. More information is here.
