Hello from Physical Education!
The Summitt Physical Education and Health team welcomes everyone back to another school year!  We have quite a few changes in the Summitt gym. The gym was painted blue over the Summer and there is now a beautiful “Summitt Strong” mural as well.  The kids have really enjoyed the new look in our space. Thank you to our amazing PTA and school community for their support! My name is Michelle Comsudi and I am the full-time PE teacher here at Summitt Elementary.  This is my 13th year as a Summitt Eagle and I’m looking forward to another fantastic school year!  Coach Stephen Woodward has a new home school but joins us here at Summitt every “A” day and Coach Cristina Rosales will be joining us every “C” day in the gym.   We concentrate on 2 skill units and 2 health units every 9-week session.  Our first skill unit will be throwing and catching and our first health unit is nutrition.  We also have many fun wellness events planned throughout the school year including Marathon Kids, Jingle Bell Jog, 5th Grade Volleyball Playday, CATCH Night and Olympic Field Day! Austin ISD PE and Health programs aim to inspire students to make healthy decisions, develop social skills and pursue lifelong physical fitness.

  Searching for Appreciation Team Sponsors…
Have you noticed the shout outs in last year’s newsletters to Platinum Balloon Decor? Your business could be mentioned next school year! We’re looking for anything that will brighten the day for our hardworking staff: giftcards (either as a gift for the staff/teachers or for the Appreciation Team to use to purchase items), flowers/plants, decor, food/drinks, trinkets, supplies, poster printing, etc. If you own or work for a business that is interested in supplying a specific appreciation week (or a whole semester—or an entire school year!), please reach out to the Summitt Appreciation Team ([email protected]).

  …and Appreciation Team Members
The Appreciation Team is looking for more team members!  We need people to plan fun themes for appreciation weeks, create posters, decorate, put together goody bags/baskets, and streamline the “process of appreciation.” Whether you’re someone who loves any excuse to look at Pinterest, a person who has an eye for decorating, or someone who can make processes more efficient, we would love to have you! Please reach out: [email protected].

Girls on the Run Program – In Need of Coaches:
After three years with Girls on the Run at Summitt, Coach Evette is hanging up her coach whistle.  For the program to continue at Summitt, it needs a head coach (and some assistant coaches)!  The head coach must be a woman, at least 21 years old, and be first aid and CPR certified.  You do not have to be runner to be a coach!  The fall season is set to start the week of September 16.  The time commitment for head coaches is about four hours per week with two practices a week for ten weeks, culminating in a 5K on December 7.  For more information on becoming a head coach or assistant coach, go to  https://www.gotraustin.org/coach  or email [email protected]
The Fitness School
We are excited to bring The Fitness School to Summitt Elementary!  The Fitness School, AISD’s 2019-2020 Partner of the Year, is bringing it’s After-School Enrichment Program to Summitt! The program converts time after school into productive, health-promoting activity.  Based on the building blocks of fitness, we introduce all children regardless of age, competency level or current fitness level to a meaningful regime of fitness-building skills that will last a lifetime. Delivered on campus and after school with the assistance of interns from The University of Texas College of Education, Advanced Sciences, Kinesiology and Athletics Departments, The Fitness School provides our area kids a means to dissipate their restless energy and keep them active. This is our 4th year servicing Murchison Middle School and 3rd year at Hill Elementary and we couldn’t be any more excited to FINALLY be at Summitt for the upcoming year!   We start on Monday, August 26th with our program meeting every Monday, Wednesday and Friday based on the AISD District Calendar.  Students enrolling from Summitt will meet at Front Office at 3:00 p.m. and will be escorted outside by a Fit School employee for active play until class officially starts, 4:00 p.m.  At 5:15 p.m., Murchison/Hill students will be driven back to Murchison for pickup while our Summitt kids will be picked up on campus. Questions? Email:[email protected] or Call: 512-900-5758   Jason Williams, Founder of The Fitness School, will be in attendance at Back to School Night!  Please look for his table if you are interested in meeting him or would like to learn more about this great program we are bringing to Summitt!
