UPCOMING EVENTS
Human Sexuality Curriculum Information: today is last day for feedback
Austin ISD would like your feedback on the newly written Human Sexuality and Responsibility lessons for grades sixth through eighth. Lessons and a feedback survey are posted on the Parent Cloud from September 18-25. Middle school lessons will be revised based on feedback. Elementary lessons have already been revised from feedback provided last May.

Families must have an enrolled student in AISD and must have a Parent Cloud account to be able to review lessons and provide feedback. Please visit the AISD website at How to Create a Parent Cloud Account for more information. Once in the Parent Cloud, look for the MS HSR Lesson Review Tile. Please contact the Parent Support line at 512-414-9187 if you need assistance creating an account.

Summitt Movie Night
Join the fun at Summitt Movie Night this Friday, September 27. We will be showing “Secret Life of Pets 2” and “Aladdin” in the cafeteria and the Great Hall. A ticket will get you a snack pack with popcorn, a sweet, and a drink. Bring a blanket or a chair if you’d like. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the movies start around 7:00 pm.

Today through Friday tickets will be on sale before school in the car line (for exact change or check) and after school outside in front of the school for $5. Tickets at the door will be $6. You may also purchase tickets by filling out the purchase tab at the bottom of the movie flyer and returning it to your child’s teacher along with your check or cash payment. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Proceeds will benefit the Koblenz Exchange Program.

PTA Grant Deadline
This Thursday, September 26, is the Fall 2019 deadline for submitting Summitt PTA grants applications. Teachers, staff, parents, and community members of Summitt Elementary are eligible to apply for grants under the program, and applicants may apply individually or collaboratively. Click here to view the application, scoring rubric, and additional information about the grants. The Summitt PTA thanks you for your participation in this program, and for all the careful and creative thought and hard work that your application represents. Our school community is enriched by your efforts and dedication!

International Walk to School Day
International Walk to School Day will take place at Summitt the morning of Wednesday, October 2. The City of Austin recently added sidewalks on Adelphi Lane close to the Waters Park apartments and has made Summitt Elementary the focus school of International Walk to School Day!

We would like to meet up with students at the Austin Public Library Milwood Branch between 7:00-7:15 am. The group will walk to Summitt Elementary at 7:15 am where students would be dropped off at the front of the school by 7:30 am so they could go in and get ready for assembly.  Safe Kids, TXDOT, and Safe Routes will have items to give students. Safe Routes will also raffle off some gift baskets to walking students who enter the drawing.

Save the Date: Eagle Fest!
Our annual fall carnival event, Eagle Fest, will be on Saturday, October 19, from 3-6 pm. There will be fun games, yummy foods, and the ever-popular 5th grade Haunted House! Tickets will go on sale September 30. Do you know anyone with a photo booth? We are looking for a photo booth sponsor for the event. SUMMITT NEWS
Custodian Appreciation Week, September 30 – October 4
From spotless floors to bathroom cleanliness, Summitt custodial staff work hard to keep our facilities clean and safe.  They are a crucial part of our Summitt family. The next time you see Veronica Garcia de Buentello, Jose Avila, and Cecilia Quintanilla on campus, let them know how much you appreciate them! The Summitt Appreciation Team will be putting together goody bags to show our custodial staff how grateful we are for their hard work. Please consider donating a gift or funds to go towards their goody bags and future goody bags. For more information on how to donate, see the Summitt Appreciation Weeks section below.

Summitt Appreciation Weeks
Want to say “thank you” to everyone who makes your child’s school week a good experience? The Summitt Appreciation Team will be creating “thank yous” for those whose national appreciation weeks are this fall: our custodians, food service workers, cafeteria monitors, bus drivers, and teaching assistants. To show your appreciation, go to the Summitt online store to donate $5 or more. We also accept cash/check donations and can send you more information to make this happen. Email questions to [email protected].

After School Chess Club
According to Benjamin Franklin, “The game of chess is not merely an idle amusement … several very valuable qualities of the mind, useful in the course of human life, are to be acquired or strengthened by it.” Sure, you have to be smart to play chess, but playing in a fun setting will make you even smarter. And don’t forget, every Chess Master was once a beginner. We meet every Tuesday afternoon at 3 pm in the Summitt Library, where we learn, practice, and play chess until 4 pm. To sign up, please visit ChessKidz.org.

The Fitness School
We are excited to bring The Fitness School to Summitt Elementary! The Fitness School, AISD’s 2019-20 Partner of the Year, is bringing its After-School Enrichment Program to Summitt. The program converts time after school into productive, health-promoting activity. Based on the building blocks of fitness, we introduce all children regardless of age, competency level or current fitness level to a meaningful regime of fitness-building skills that will last a lifetime. Delivered on campus and after school with the assistance of interns from The University of Texas College of Education, Advanced Sciences, Kinesiology and Athletics Departments, The Fitness School provides our area kids a means to dissipate their restless energy and keep them active. This is our 4th year servicing Murchison Middle School and 3rd year at Hill Elementary and we couldn’t be any more excited to finally be at Summitt this year!

The program meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday based on the AISD District Calendar. Students enrolling from Summitt will meet at the office at 3:00 pm and will be escorted outside by a Fit School employee for active play until class officially starts, 4:00 pm. At 5:15 pm, Murchison/Hill students will be driven back to Murchison for pickup while our Summitt kids will be picked up on campus. Questions? Email [email protected] or call 512-900-5758.
