Back to School Night tonight

Teachers have prepared engaging presentations, and they are anxious to share their expectations and goals for our Summitt students at Back to School Night tonight. While we love our students dearly, we would like this evening to remain an “adult only” presentation. This will help ensure focus and minimal distractions for all who attend. Please do not leave children on the playground during the evening, as this area will not be supervised. Teachers will begin scheduling individual parent conferences beginning in October.

5:30- 6:30 p.m. – Pre K, Kinder, 1st, and 2nd Grade classrooms

6:45- 7:45 p.m. – 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Classrooms

Doors will open at 5:20 p.m. for the first round of presentations. Parents should proceed directly to classrooms for their respective presentations.  An announcement will be made when the time has come to transition, and another announcement will be made to signal the end of our evening.

There will a Volunteer Deputy Registrar available during Back to School Night, in the Great Hall. You can register to vote or update your voter information. The last day to register to vote for the upcoming November elections is October 9.

Coffee with the Principal will take place on Monday, Sept 17th at 7:45 am in the library. Food and coffee will be provided. Thanks to Dunkin’ Donuts for your generous donation!

Counselor’s Chronicle
Thank you for the tremendous response to Career Talk. We just need a few more spots and we will have enough guests for the year! Summitt is looking for volunteers who would be willing to do a 5-10 minute presentation about their career during morning assembly time. We would like to have career talk Tuesdays once or twice a month to expose all of our eagles to some of the many possibilities that exist. If you would be willing to come to morning assembly one Tuesday morning for 5 minutes or so and present, please email Courtney Cardosa at [email protected].

Math Pentathlon
Math Pentathlon at Summitt is a volunteer-run after school program that practices math skills and logical reasoning. We use fun games to strengthen basic math skills, develop good sportsmanship, and foster creative thinking. For more information check out https://www.mathpentath.org. We support our volunteers- you do not need to be a math wiz to help! Membership is open to all grades (K-5). For more information contact [email protected].

Looking for Homeroom Parents
Please check with your child’s teacher to see if he or she is still looking for a homeroom parent at tonight’s Back to School Night. You do not have to do all the work yourself! As homeroom parent, you would assist with class parties and other special events; however, you do not have to be at these events in person. You would work with your child’s teacher to coordinate parties and other classroom events. You would also be the liaison between the PTA and class families so that Summitt has enough volunteers and donations for its fundraisers. A coordinator provides you with a packet of tips and recommendations, as well as example emails and flyers that you can use. Have questions? Email [email protected].

Got the time?
This section features volunteer opportunities with specific time estimates. Check here each week to see what’s needed. That way, if you “got the time,” you can help out regularly for 5 to 15 minutes, or for a couple hours on a one-time project.

  • Tuesday, September 18, is fall picture day! If you have any time 8 am to noon, please consider helping escort students to and from their classes that day. Contact Shana in the front office ([email protected]) with questions.

  • If you are free 10:30 am to 11:30 am any day during the week, please consider helping out in the cafeteria. Pre-K and Kinder classes are still getting used to their lunchtime routines and need a little extra help. Contact Shana in the front office ([email protected]) with questions.

Save the Date: Eagle Fest!
Our annual fall carnival event, Eagle Fest, will be on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 3-6 pm. There will be fun games, yummy foods, and the ever-popular 5th grade Haunted House! Tickets will go on sale Oct. 1.
