Book Fair/Pajama Day this week
Enchanted Forest Fall Book Fair is this week, Nov. 12-16.
Proceeds from the book fair go to student enrichment and educational
materials. Keep your eye out for our All for Books donation program by
collecting loose change and dollar bills to buy books for kids needing
assistance.
Book Fair Hours
Wednesday 7:15am – 3:30pm
Thursday – 7:15am – 7:30pm (open all day / extended hours)
Friday – 7:15am – 12pm
Pajama Day on Thursday – students can wear their pajamas at school and to the Family Night Book Fair event on Thursday. We will have special guests read bedtime stories to the students.

Blue Santa Donations
Summitt Elementary has teamed up with APD to be a Blue Santa toy collection site. We are collecting NEW toys for both boys and girls, particularly between the ages of 0-2 and 11-14. Please drop off toys in the Blue Santa boxes located near the office any time from now until Dec. 6. You can also drop off donations at any Austin Fire Department stations or at the Chuy’s Parade on Nov. 24. Our Summitt Lion and Dragon Team will perform at the parade, so come out and cheer for the Team as well. More information is here.
Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday is November 27. You can give a tax-deductible donation to Summitt Elementary of $100 and become an Eagle Family Sponsor! Your support directly benefits our Summitt PTA and students. Plus, you’ll receive an Eagle Family Sponsor gift (while supplies last) and your family’s name in the newsletter, on the website, and on the bulletin board at Summitt. Lost and Found
Please take a look in the lost and found for your student’s possessions, it is full of coats, clothing, backpacks, lunch boxes and water bottles. The lost and found is located to the right of the front doors, in the music hallway, after you enter the building. All items not claimed by Monday, November 26 will be donated to Coats for Kids!
Summitt Spirit Wear Sale ends Friday
Summitt PTA is hosting a fall spirit wear sale – hoodies and a long sleeve t-shirt can be ordered until November 16th. Orders will be printed and shipped to the school before winter break. On offer are a gray zipper hoodie, a royal blue zipper hoodie, a royal blue pull-over hoodie, and a royal blue long sleeve t-shirt. All feature the same Summitt logo (the pullover hoodie and long sleeve t-shirt’s logo in the center and the zipper hoodies with the logo in the top left corner). Youth and Adult sizes are available. PTA will not be ordering any extras so if you are interested, you will need to order by November 16th. Checks should be made out to “Summitt PTA”. Got the time?
This section features volunteer opportunities with specific time estimates. Check here each week to see what’s needed. That way, if you “got the time,” you can help out regularly for 5 to 15 minutes, or for a couple hours on a one-time project.
- If you have any time this week, please consider taking a shift at the book fair. We could use extra hands at drop off (7:15-8 am), end of the day (2-3:30 pm), and breaking down on Friday (noon to 3 pm): https://volunteer.scholastic.com/#/experience/signup/qpQR5FOan.

Fireside Chat with the Principal in December

Teaching Assistants Appreciation this Week
Summitt proudly recognizes its Teaching Assistants this week, November 12-16. Give a special thanks to Thanh Doan, Sarwat Rahman, Sarah Spence, Tori Tambila, Brenda Wood, and Mizu Wa’oo for providing much-need support to our classrooms. Thank you for helping us to acknowledge these hardworking individuals.
Teacher Workroom Needs Help!
With the holidays ahead, volunteers are needed to cut out mittens and cuffs for all second-grade classes and stockings for every third grader. If you have any time to help, even 15 to 30 minutes, please drop by the workroom. Instructions are posted on the wall for first-time helpers. Can Contest due Friday
It’s time for the Fall Can Contest. Which class will win an ice cream party by bringing in the most aluminum cans? Individual students also win prizes! Drop your bagged cans off by the trailer next to the basketball court. Get an entry form from the Great Hall community table. The last day to submit will be November 16. Questions? The third grade needs clean, dry Pringles cans (with lids). Please drop them off in a labeled container in the Great Hall.

Anderson High School Open House
On Tuesday, November 27 from 5:30-7:30 PM, Anderson High School will be hosting Trojan Tribute for parents whose children are transitioning up to the next level of school (8th to 9th grade but also 5th to 6th grade). For the 5th grade parents, this event can be useful as they can be aware of what might be happening in their child’s high school future in relation to choosing middle school programs & courses. Sessions over a new P-Tech Engineering program at AHS, choosing middle school courses, and math sequencing in middle school will be presented at Trojan Tribute. Parents Night out with Anderson Cheer
The Anderson Trojan Cheer and Mascot Team will host a Parent Night out on Friday, Dec. 7, from 6:30-10 PM in the Anderson cafeteria. This is for students K-6th Grade and costs $45/child. The kids will get to perform at the halftime AHS girl’s basketball game that night! They will make gifts for family, learn cheers, jumps, and stunts, make crafts and MORE! Flu season reminders from Dell Children’s
Flu season has started and Dell Chidren’s Hospital has some friendly reminders for everyone, especially if you’re going to visit patients at the hospital. Starting in November, all visitors to Dell Children’s Hospital must be older than 5 years old and must not be sick.
Visitors are restricted from entering the hospital if they have any of the following symptoms:
• Fever
• Nausea
• Cough
• Sore Throat
• Diarrhea
• Vomiting
Good habits can help stop germs:
• Wear a mask until you are seen by a doctor or nurse
• Sneeze/cough into tissues
• Put used tissues in the trash can
• Wash your hands frequently with soap & water or use hand sanitizer
