Academic Specialists Appreciation Week

This week, March 5 through 9, our school is celebrating its reading and math specialists. Please give a special thanks to (right to left) Heather Doyle, Marion Horowitz, and Linda White. They provide one-on-one and group academic support to those students who need it. Please help us to show our appreciation for their hard work and dedication by leaving a special message in one of two ways:

  • by writing on the laminated posters next to their classroom doors, or

  • by writing a message on a slip of colored paper at the counter in the front office

Thank you! Summitt Appreciation Days Team, [email protected]

Spring and classroom pictures
Spring and classroom group pictures will be taken on Friday, March 23. Parents will receive flyers after Spring Break, in the Monday folder, March 19, to order these pictures.

The classroom group photo flyer will need to be returned with payment ($15) on picture day.

The spring picture just needs to have the form returned with the style selected. These packets will be printed and shipped in approximately 3-4 weeks after picture day. Parents will then have the opportunity to purchase from the package and customize their purchase to meet their needs. There is no obligation to purchase and any unselected prints need to be returned to the school.

Library News
I’m very excited to announce that the Summitt Library is once again partnering with BookPeople to bring you and your students an author event. Elise Broach, author of My Pet Wants a Pet, will be here on Friday, March 9. She will be presenting to 1st and 2nd graders.

About My Pet Wants a Pet
A charming picture book that cleverly captures a universal wish—to love and care for something—and shows that you’re never too little to share in that dream, by New York Times-bestselling author Elise Broach.

Once there was a boy who wanted something to take care of. Something of his very own. He begged his mother for a puppy. Until she said YES! The boy loved his puppy. He fed him and played with him and cuddled him. But soon, the dog wanted something to take care of—something of his very own. So the dog gets a pet cat; then the cat gets a pet bird; the bird gets a pet worm; the worm gets a pet flea…and on and on it goes as utter chaos ensues.

Got the time?
This section features volunteer opportunities with specific time estimates. Check here each week to see what’s needed. That way, if you “got the time,” you can help out regularly for 5 to 15 minutes, or for a couple hours on a one-time project.

  • If you have an hour or two (or more!) on Friday, March 23, please consider helping out with spring picture day at Summitt. If you’re able to help, please let Shana in the front office know.

  • If you can spare 15 minutes after the 7:45 am bell, please stay to open the door for late students.

  • If you’ve planning to have lunch with your child this next week, please consider being a door opener. You do not have to sit next to the door or open it up in person. You will be given a phone to answer the front doorbell and then buzz in the visitors. If you’re able to help, please speak with Shana or Elizabeth in the front office.

If you want to know if a certain apartment complex or house on a certain street is in Summitt’s school zone, there is a website that will help. Go to http://mobilityblueprint.net/, click on Go to Map, and you can either register or just sign in as a guest by putting in your Zip Code.
