Multicultural night next week
Summitt’s Multicultural Night will be on Friday, April 21, 2017, from 6 – 8 PM. Each grade level will participate in a cultural performance to begin the celebration. After the performances, there will be a variety of activities such as games, crafts and food sampling. We would love to see you in your country’s traditional costume!

Spring Fling tickets on sale until next Friday
Spring Fling, Summitt’s adult-only silent auction fundraiser, will be at Abel’s North on Saturday, April 29 from 6-9 p.m. Tickets are available online now or in the Great Hall April 17th – 21st.  April 21st is the last day to purchase tickets. Order your tickets now so you we can get an accurate head count for the event. Raffle tickets will also be available in the Great Hall during ticket sales and at the event for some fabulous prize packages, like an overnight San Antonio trip including hotel stay and Sea World tickets. This is a fundraiser to pay the salary for our technology teacher, Barbara Neill. Austin ISD does not pay for a technology teacher at our campus and we want to make sure our students know basic computer skills in order for them to succeed.

Childcare at Spring Fling
Childcare is available during Spring Fling at Summitt through United Family Care Social Services. It costs $20 for the first child, and $10 for additional siblings. Registration and payment can be made with cash or credit card after school in the cafeteria with Ca’Ron.The price includes pizza, dessert, beverage, movie, games, etc. This is open only to parents who are attending Spring Fling, and we need at least 15 families to participate in order to make it happen. Register now as there is only space for 50 kids. Spring Picture packets
The spring pictures should come home to your student(s) this week. Parents now have the opportunity to purchase from the package and customize their purchase to meet their needs. There is no obligation to purchase and any unselected prints can be returned to the school. Students returning packages/money will receive a responsibility pencil from the teacher.

Please return full picture package (do not wish to buy), partial picture purchase or full package purchase (with money enclosed) by Friday, May 5, 2017.

Field Days
I can’t believe we are less than 3 weeks away from Field Day! This year’s theme is “HERO UP!”

K-2 Field Day is on Thursday, April 27th and 5th graders will help run stations from 8-10:30 am.

3-5 Field Day will take place on Friday, April 28th and stations will run from 8:15-10:30 am.

We need volunteers to help run stations on Friday, April 28th, and we would also appreciate donations of water bottles, juice boxes and chalk for Captain America’s Chill & Chalk station.

The afternoons will be our PTA concessions/movie in the gym for all students that had Field Day that same morning. Encourage your students to wear their favorite Super Hero attire!

Icy treat truck every week
There will be a rotation of trucks selling ice cream or shaved ice after school every Friday until the end of the school year. A portion of the sales benefits Summitt PTA.

Become a PTA volunteer
Summitt PTA has a few positions open. These are not board positions and most are seasonal commitments. Some positions can be done at home. Please consider helping so we can make events and communication go smoothly.

  • Bulletin Board Decorator – decorate the bulletin board in the Great Hall; mostly done before or around the start of the school year and then updated when needed

  • Coke Rewards – pick up Coke Rewards donation box at school and input Coke Rewards numbers into a Summitt account; most work is done at home

  • Eagles Night Out Coordinator – coordinate with RR Express and Texas Stars about discounts/donations for Summitt families to attend a game

  • Book Fair Committee Member – help plan the book fair in the Fall

  • Eagle Fest Co-chair – Help plan Eagle Fest in the Fall

  • Communication Team Member – Help maintain website, take pictures during events or help post the Newsletter

  • Boosterthon Co-chair- Help coordinate Fun Run in February 2018

  • Yearbook team – Trained to help lay out the yearbook; most work is in the Spring

Diaper drive
The 3rd Grade Girl Scout Troop 40 is hosting a “diaper drive” to benefit The Austin Diaper Bank. The Austin Diaper Bank supports diaper needs in all age groups, from newborns to the elderly. Larger sizes, such as babies’ 4 or 5 and adult L/XL, are always in demand.

We are collecting:

Disposable diapers and pull-ups, even opened packages or loose diapers in good condition. Even diaper cakes.

Cloth diapers and accessories in good condition

Baby wipes and diaper cream

Adult diapers and pull-ups

Bed pads

Swim diapers

We have placed a box in Summitt’s Great Hall, just outside of the front office. We will be collecting donations until Friday, April 21st. Thank you so much!

Spring Can Contest March-29 thru April 21. Help your class win an ice cream party and the Championship Trophy! Drop off the cans by the trailer next to the basketball court. Find an entry slip in the office or on the community table in the Great Hall. Slips go in the container next to the pop top house. Counselors’ Corner
Thank you to those of you who have brought empty Voss water bottles! However, we still need many more bottles. We are hopeful we will have enough so each teacher can have 2 bottles. Our goal is 200 bottles, but every bottle  helps. We appreciate your help. Please know you can purchase a six-pack of the small Voss bottled water for $6. Thank you!

Save the Date: Round Rock Express game
Summitt is having a Spirit Night with the Round Rock Express on Friday, May 19 at 7:05 p.m. Get a group out and watch some amazing baseball. There will be fireworks afterwards! They are offering us discounted tickets and giving a portion of our ticket sales back to the PTA. Tickets are already available, so buy your tickets now. Summitt Alumni Scholarship
The Summitt Elementary Alumni Scholarship is now accepting applicants through May 2, 2017. The scholarship was established to recognize former students who have excelled in their academic endeavors, supported their community through various service projects and/or participated in extra-curricular activities, and proven they possess the drive to further their education. By granting these scholarships, we encourage students to pursue their academic endeavors and hope to strengthen relationships between Summitt and its alumni. Summitt Elementary will offer either one (1) $600.00 or (2) $300.00 scholarship/s, depending on the number of qualified applicants. The deadline to apply is May 2, 2017. More information is here.

Anderson Trojan Belles Spring Show
The Anderson Trojan Belles present their annual Spring Show on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, April 27-29, in the Anderson High School’s Performing Arts Center. The shows start at 7 pm each night. You won’t want to miss the Trojan Belles, Anderson Dance Guard, Senior Guys Dance, Newbie Team, MMS Junior Belles and much, much more!

Online Ticket Sales
Tickets may be purchased online from April 1, 2017 to Sunday, April 23, 2017. Online tickets are $12 (plus a service fee). Tickets purchased online will be available at “Will Call” the night of the show. To purchase tickets online, go to www.trojanbelles.com.

School Ticket Sales
Tickets may be purchased on April 26, 27 & 28 (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) in the school cafeteria during lunch from 12:35-1:20 pm. Ticket price during cafeteria sales is $10 per ticket. During cafeteria sales, AHS students may purchase one $5 ticket for the Thursday night show only.

Box Office Ticket Sales
Tickets are available at the Box Office on show nights- April 27, 28 & 29 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday). The Box Office opens at 6:15 pm each night. Ticket price at the Box Office is $15.

Girlstart Conference
Have your girl participate in Girls in STEM Conference, part of the Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) national network. The conference is held at Travis High School on Saturday, April 22nd from 10am-3:30pm. This unique program for girls in grades 4-8 offers a one-day series of workshops where girls participate in hands-on activities lead by women working in STEM careers. The conference is designed to introduce girls to STEM experiences, as well as female role models in STEM who encourage them to consider and pursue STEM careers. Monster Jam
Monster Jam®, the most adrenaline charged motorsports experience for families on the planet is returning to the Frank Erwin Center on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23. Come dance with the Anderson Trojan Belles at their 2017 BELLES SUMMER DANCE CAMP, June 19th – 22nd at Murchison Middle School(new location). Full day elementary aged campers will learn dances, participate in daily arts & crafts and game time, perform with the Belles, and more! Theater summer camp
The Paramount Theatre is hosting a summer camp at nearby Davis Elementary, June 19-30. In Camp Story Wranglers students will explore story-writing, songwriting, costume and prop design, as well as acting, to create a new, thrilling, hilarious, weird, poignant, SNL-style, you-name-it production. The camp will not only challenge students to be creative writers, but will challenge them to bring their stories to life. Campers will be featured in a final performance downtown at Stateside at the Paramount on the final day of camp. Registration is now open and scholarships are available!
