Parents/Guardians, Students and Summitt Community: Thank you for making Summitt’s first week of school a success! Seeing your students brought smiles to myself and my staff. Thank you for all your support and for your children. An exciting event occurred for Summitt on Tuesday morning. Dr. Cruz, our Superintendent, toured our campus to learn more about what we do at Summitt. If you have not heard, Summitt was highlighted on KVUE Tuesday evening news. Summitt’s Spirit Day is Fridays. Please encourage your student to wear their Summitt T-shirt or Summitt’s blue and white colors on Friday. You are welcome to join your student every morning in the cafeteria for assembly. Please remember to stand at the back to make room for our students. Thank you!! — Dedra Standish, Principal
Koblenz trip information meeting
Would you like to know more about our teacher & student exchange program with Schenkendorf Elementary in Koblenz, Germany? Please join us Thursday, September 10th at 6 pm in the Summitt library. Learn More About Girl Scouts
Did you miss us at Meet the Teacher Night? It’s not too late to join a Girl Scout troop at Summitt Elementary this year. We will be hosting a Girl Scout Rally on Thursday, September 10 from 6-7:30pm in the Summitt Library to give parents more information about how to get their daughter in grades K-5 involved in Girl Scouts. Girls on the Run
Attention 4th and 5th grade girls only! It’s almost here! Fall 2015 Girls on the Run season begins on Sept 14. Training sessions will be Mon and Wed 2:45-4pm. The Fall 5k will be on Dec 12! Please email [email protected] for a spot on the list. We only have 20 spots available. NOTE: we are only able to accept FIRST TIME applicants to allow for more girls to experience GOTR at Summitt. Please consider that we will ALWAYS be outside, as we have no access to indoor space to hold a running class. We look forward to another GREAT season of GOTR at Summitt!! Also: There will be a parent meeting prior to the start of the season, date and time TBD. –Coach Ryan
Eagle Fest News
Our annual Fall Fest has a new name this year, Eagle Fest! It is still the same great event, but with a focus on school spirit and community! Eagle Fest is Saturday, October 17th 3-6 PM.
Today is the day you are going to make two Eagle Fest coordinators very happy! Today is the day you are going to sign up as a volunteer for Eagle Fest! We cannot make Eagle Fest a success without you! There are many ways to help! We need a master griller, someone to fill coolers with ice, someone to pick up the cotton candy machine, etc. We also need help with the following committees: games, recycling, and family sponsorship. We are also looking for an understudy to learn about the food committee this year. There are many, many ways to help! If you are interested in volunteering or have questions contact Jill at [email protected] or Lisa at [email protected].
We are also looking for toy donations. Our biggest need as far as toys are still packaged fast food toys for our fishing booth. Please bring any toy donations to the Great Hall or contact Jill at [email protected].
Message from Librarian
Welcome to another great year at Summitt Elementary school! My name is Denise Richey, and I am your child’s librarian. You can usually find me in the mornings out in the front circle drive greeting students as they arrive. Otherwise, I can almost always be found in the library. If we haven’t already met, please feel free to stop by in the afternoon until 3:30 pm –any day but Thursdays.
Very soon your child will begin visiting the library to learn or review book care and library manners. After that foundation has been laid, students will be able to check out books. I appreciate your patience with this timeline. If in the meantime, you’d like to check out books for home, you can do so. I am more than happy to create a parent library account for you.
Our Birthday Book Club membership drive has begun and will continue until October 16th. Please stop by if you have any questions, or would like to sign up your child. Need your photos for the yearbook
Summitt Eagle parents, the yearbook committee needs your photos! If you would like to see your child’s “meet the teacher” and “first-day” of school photos or other candid photos in the yearbook*, please email photos to: [email protected]. We’ve seen some great ones posted on Facebook so send them in! Also, the Yearbook Committee is seeking event photographers. Have a camera? You’ll do! 🙂 Email [email protected] if interested in signing up as a Summitt Eagles event photographer.
*Submitting photos to the yearbook committee does not guarantee that your child’s photo will be included in the yearbook, but we will try our best to get them in!
Become a PTA member, get a chance for a parking spot
Do you want your own personal parking spot? Then join Summitt PTA by September 15th and you will be entered in a drawing for a front row parking space that will be reserved for your family for the school year. If you missed your chance to join at Meet the Teacher, there will be a form in the next Monday folder. Also, membership forms can be found in the Great Hall on the PTA bulletin board. PTA membership is only $12.50.
Collect Coke caps
Please save Coke/Diet Coke/Sprite/Minute Maid/Powerade caps and turn them into funds for Summitt. My Coke Rewards program allows us to convert caps into cash to spend on physical education, class & art supplies and new technology. Bring your ziplocs of collected caps to the main office. If you have any questions, please email, Ericka Bereuter, My Coke Rewards coordinator at [email protected]. Let’s raise some money for our Eagles!
Teachers looking for a book
If you have a copy of Deltora Quest (book one), Forests of Silence, please bring it to the office or give it to a fifth grade teacher. The fifth graders are reading this book and they’re looking for as many copies they can find.
Collect Box Tops
Turn in your box tops to the front office and earn money for Summitt! Please bring in box tops when you have collected 50 of them, label the baggie with your child’s name and teacher, and place in the big blue bin in the front office. Every box top is worth 10 cents for Summitt and it adds up quickly! If you have questions about box tops collecting, please contact Sarah Allen, box tops coordinator, at [email protected]. CASA Superhero Run
CASA Superhero Run will be on Sunday, September 13th at the Domain. The run is not just a fun event for families, it’s an easy way for kids of all ages to get involved with helping their community. We have all sorts of activities for people of all ages, from the 5K and Kids 1K to superhero costume contests, bounce houses, an obstacle course, special superhero guest appearances and more, all to help children in our community.
The CASA Superhero Run is built around a simple idea: Every child needs a hero, but abused children need superheroes. And the thing that is so great about the CASA Superhero Run is that kids get to be that hero for other children and learn that it doesn’t take super powers to be able to make a big difference for people in need.
The CASA Superhero Run supports the CASA programs of Travis, Williamson, Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe & Hays Counties. CASA speaks up for children who’ve been abused or neglected by empowering our community to volunteer as advocates for them in the court system. Balcones Ball Season
We encourage you to register online now to avoid the $25 late registration fee which takes affect at the end of the month! If you don’t have the ability to pay with a credit or debit card then you are welcome at the in-person registration date on Sunday, August 30th at 1:30 PM where you can complete a paper registration form and pay with cash or check. However, if you can pay with a card, please register online to avoid lines at in-person registration.
The BYS Board has planned a fun season for your players and families.
Important Dates/Schedule:
- Fall Ball Season will start 2nd week in September – end mid-November
- General Work Day – August 29th, 9 AM come help make BYS pretty
- Skills Assessment for 8 year olds and up only on August 30th – 2 PM
- In-Person Registration August 30th (pay with cash with check)
- Late Registration starts August 31st $25 late fee to all registrations received on/after this date
- Late Registration period ends September 2nd
- Team formations from August 30-September 3rd
