Tomorrow: Halloween Dress Up Day Students can dress up as their favorite book character tomorrow. But keep in mind: no masks, props, or accessories please for student safety reasons. We encourage students to carry the book for the character they choose to represent. Come and learn about the rich history, culture, and tradition of Vietnam, a great intro to understand more about what our dual language programs students are all about! Come by the library where we’ve installed a new book and magazine swap station. Located by the Eagles’ Nest, the Summitt Book Swap has books and magazines for kids and adults. PE News from Coach Comsudi “We are celebrating the end of our first 9-weeks with some spooky fun Halloween games in PE this week! Our upper grades are completing their Fitnessgram testing as we roll into November. We will be focused on basketball skills and drills and our health topic for the month of November is all about the dangers of smoking. I am positive your children will be coming home to tell you all about our discussions…so just a heads up! They will be learning about the dangerous effects of second-hand smoke. A big thank you to our PTA who will be helping us purchase brand new gymnastics mats this school year through their grant program! I would also love to thank everyone who supported our Y-ties fundraiser. We raised over $2000 and will get to keep half of the profits! We can’t wait to order some new equipment and plan for our upcoming events. We hope that your kiddos have been enjoying Physical Education at Summitt!” PTA Fall Grant Program Announces Approved Grants Summitt PTA is happy to announce that we were able to fund the following Teacher/staff/school/community needs during our Fall 2019 Grant Program: 1) New PE safety mats; 2) Additional furniture for the new counseling center; 3) Two needs-based food/clothing/supply programs; 4) Life Skills community-based instruction; 5) Rebuilding the oak tree benches; 6) a school-wide science curriculum; 7) additional supplies for non-classroom teachers; and 8) First Grade reading manipulatives. Thank you all who submitted grant requests and thank you to the PTA grant committee. Fall Pictures Retake and Order Friendly Reminder that you can still order School Pics if you want. Campus Advisory Council (CAC) The CAC currently needs two more parent representatives to serve on our Campus Advisory Council. This is another great way to remain connected to Summitt and our campus progress. If you are interested in serving on CAC, please email Principal Friede directly! Teacher Workroom Help Needed If you have 10-15 minutes to spare, the Teacher Workroom could use some help next week. Teachers need help with copying, die cutting, and laminating. Hours are 7:10 am-3:30 pm. Come when you can! |

Milwood Baptist Church’s Fall Fest Milwood Baptist Church’s Fall Fest is October 31, Thursday evening from 6-8pm. There will be free food, games, and inflatables! And lots of candy, of course! Any donations will be used to support Operation Acuña – a ministry in Mexico that supports impoverished villages by providing them with basic supplies, including school supplies. Milwood Library’s Second Annual Halloween Party and Costume Bash Thursday, Oct 31 from 6:30-8:30pm. All ages welcome. The Anderson Trojan Tennis Team, in collaboration with Capital Area Tennis Association, is hosting a free day of tennis activities for all ages including mini tennis for the 8 & under crowd. Anderson High School Project Graduation Mattress Fundraiser Are you in the market for a new mattress, pillows or bedding? All proceeds benefit Project Graduation 2020, a substance-free, all-night celebration for our graduates. Kealing Middle School Showcase If your student is interested in attending (or just learning more about) Kealing Middle School, they will have a showcase event on November 7th. This event gives families an opportunity to roam about the school, ask questions, meet teachers and current students, and get a feel for the program, all to help your student make a decision about applying. Night of the Robots On the night of December 6, starting at 5:30 pm, Night of the Robots will occur in the Applied Technology Center at Anderson High School. If you are a first-timer, NotR is a night where parents can drop off their children at a mini robotics night camp where they learn about engineering and robotics. Parents can enjoy a night off from the kids, which is usually the long-overdue break that they need! The age group ranges from Kindergarten to 5th grade, and there are multiple stations in which the kids can explore possible new interests. Sign up here. Austin ISD’s Middle School Fair Families of current and future middle school students are invited to Austin ISD’s 2019 Middle School Fair on Saturday, December 7 from 9 am-12 pm. Students and their families can learn about the diverse and innovative programming offered in Austin ISD, enjoy student performances, and hear from current students, families and faculty from our 19 middle schools about the amazing programs and classes open to our middle school students.
