Eagle Fest runs on the willingness of each classroom to staff a booth. We ask every family to volunteer 30 minutes of their time to staff their child’s classroom booth. We’ve made it easy on you this year – all signups will be done on Sign Up Genius (no registration required). Signups are listed first by grade/ then alphabetical by teacher’s last name.

Item Donations (small prizes and drinks/chips/candy and coolers)
Eagle Fest needs to borrow your coolers. If you have a cooler that you can lend us, please bring them labeled to the Great Hall this week. If you are unable to bring your cooler to the school, contact us at [email protected] and we will arrange a pick up.
Don’t forget to bring in your donations – we are most in need of tall Pringles cans (currently on sale at HEB!), 16oz water bottles, and 12 oz canned drinks.
Skip the Line! Buy your Eagle Fest 2017 Tickets Now!
Who wants to wait in line? Save yourself and your family some time and buy your Eagle Fest tickets this week in the Great Hall (mornings 7:10am-7:45am) and afternoons (2:45-3:15pm).
Tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10 for $5.00. That’s only 50 cents a ticket! Approximately 20 tickets will allow a child to play each token-winning game at Eagle Fest once. An additional 20 tickets will allow a child to do every single game/booth/attraction. Hotdogs, cotton candy and popcorn will be available for purchase via tickets. About 20 tickets will feed a family of 4 a hotdog dinner. (Tickets will still be sold during Eagle Fest at the ticket booth – cash, check, and credit accepted.

Red Ribbon Week
Our school will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week, October 24-27. We will be helping our students to make a commitment NOT to use drugs or alcohol. Each student will receive a red bracelet to wear for the week that symbolizes their commitment to say no to drugs and alcohol. To help make this week fun, we will be celebrating our commitments with the following dress-up days.
Tuesday 10/24 – Sock It to Drugs – Students wear crazy socks.
Wednesday 10/25 – Wear Orange Day – Students wear anything orange to support National Unity Day. This supports our anti-bullying and No Place for Hate initiatives.
Thursday 10/26 – Team Up Against Drugs Day – Students wear a college or team shirt of any kind (NFL, NBA, soccer, etc).
Friday 10/27 – Wear Red Day – Students wear anything red to show support for saying no to drugs.
Halloween Dress Up Day
This will be on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 and not part of Red Ribbon Week this year. The idea is still as follows: Students dress up as their favorite book character (super hero shirts are good if you don’t want to dress in a costume). NO Masks, props or accessories please for student safety reasons.
Fifth Grade Drug/Alcohol Awareness Program
This Thursday, October 19, the District Attorney’s office will be here to do brief (about 20 minute) drug and alcohol awareness programs for each 5th grade class. If this is something that you are not comfortable with, please let your child’s homeroom teacher know immediately so that we can make other arrangements.
Meals during Oct. 23 student holiday
To ensure all Austin ISD students have access to healthy meals, Food Service will be offering a limited menu for both breakfast and lunch on all District of Innovation Vertical Team Professional Development Days. While school may not be in session on these days, it does not mean that students must miss out on the opportunity to have nutritious meals.
During these no-school days, Summitt students can go to these schools for breakfast and lunch:
Monday, October 23, 2017 at Davis Elementary, 5214 Duval Rd.
Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Anderson High School, 8403 Mesa Dr.
Friday, February 9, 2018 at Pillow Elementary, 3025 Crosscreek Dr.
On these days, both breakfast and lunch will be served in the cafeteria of the assigned campus just as they would on a regular school day. Breakfast will be served 7 – 7:30 AM and lunch will be served 11AM – 12:15 PM. While a modified menu will be offered, a minimum of two entree options will be provided for students to select from. Meals will consist of protein, whole grains, fruits, vegetables and milk to complete a healthy, balanced meal.
Students will enter their pin pad number and eat off their meal account, just as they would on a school day. Parents may join their child for breakfast or lunch by first checking in at the front office. An adult breakfast is $2.25, and an adult lunch is $3.50. There will not be an adult/monitors available. If your student is to eat at the campus, an adult will need to stay with the student. Healthy meals are important for student growth and development, even when school is not in session. We encourage your family to take advantage of these meals.
T-shirt orders
T-shirt order forms are going home this week. It is not too late to get your 2017-2018 Summitt t-shirt! Limited sizes are available. Do you need an extra shirt for Friday Spirit Day? Maybe a shirt for a friend or family member? Get them while supplies last. It’s $15 each, cash or checks made out to Summitt PTA can be sent with the order form.
Box Tops
Summitt will once again be collecting Box Tops to raise money for the PTA. Each Box Top earns us 10 cents, and last year we earned over $1000 in total! Collection sheets were included in the Monday folder, and extra sheets can be found on the Community Table in the Great Hall. Please write your child’s name, teacher, and grade level on each form. For each form submitted, students will earn a small prize.
To submit larger amounts of Box Tops, there’s a collection box in the office. Please don’t attach Bonus Box Tops to submission forms; they should be submitted separately in the office collection box. We will also have a collection box in the Milwood Neighborhood Library for those who don’t have kids at Summitt, so please tell your friends and neighbors! Thanks for helping!

Pumpkin Decorating Contest
The Summitt Library annual pumpkin decorating contest is a few short weeks away. Have you started thinking of your winning design? Our theme this year is “Once upon a pumpkin patch. . .” We are encouraging readers to create, carve, paint, collage, or make in any way a pumpkin with any literary theme. Pumpkins can be submitted on Wednesday, October 25, until 3:30 pm. Judging will occur Thursday and Friday, with winners being announced on Tuesday, October 31 during the morning assembly.
Bus Driver Appreciation Week this week
Bus Driver Appreciation Week is October 16-20. Don’t forget to say “thank you” to your student’s bus driver next week.

This section features volunteer opportunities with specific time estimates. Check here each week to see what’s needed. That way, if you “got the time,” you can help out regularly for 5 to 15 minutes, or for a couple hours on a one-time project.

Teacher Workroom News
The Summitt PTA has purchased a new laminator for the Teacher Workroom. Because it’s so fancy, a three-minute training is needed before using it. The wonderful office staff can show you the ins and outs of it before you use it.
Childcare for Oct. 23 student holiday update
Due to lack of interest, there will be no childcare at Summitt on the student holiday on Oct. 23.

St. David’s Kids Fest/Safety Fair
St. David’s Hospital off Mopac will have a Kids Fest and Safety Fair on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. More info is here.
Young Rembrandts session starts Oct. 25
Encourage your elementary student’s enthusiasm for art and develop their drawing skills with Young Rembrandts.
