Austin ISD Bond Election – Vote today!

Do you know that when our children attend Murchison Middle School, almost all of the 6th grade classes are in portables because they have no space in the main building for their classrooms? Do you know that at Doss Elementary, several grades are in portables? And since they are so overcrowded, their pre-K students attend school at another campus? Do you know that the floors at TA Brown Elementary off Hwy 183/N. Lamar were so unsafe for students that they had to close the school, relocate students and demolish it?  These and many other campus challenges will be addressed in the Austin ISD Bond.

Please vote this week for the bond package. Summitt PTA has endorsed this package. Early voting is through Friday, Nov. 3. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7. Summitt will benefit from the bond. Summitt will get improvements to A/C and heating, technology upgrades, updated computers for teachers, fire alarm upgrades, computer lab improvements, and those are just the immediate plans for this campus. Future plans include a full modernization of the entire campus.

This election will be decided by only 10 percent of the voters, so your vote counts more than ever. More information about the bond package is here. A list of what every school will receive is here.

Got the time?…
This section features volunteer opportunities with specific time estimates. Check here each week to see what’s needed. That way, if you “got the time,” you can help out regularly for 5 to 15 minutes, or for a couple hours on a one-time project.

  • If you have time 10:30 am to 1:30 pm (or any time in between) on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, please consider helping out in Summitt’s cafeteria. We have only one lunch monitor at this time on those days. Contact the front office if you are able to assist.

  • If you have an hour or two any day, the teacher workroom needs volunteers to help fill requests for copies, laminating, and binding, and creating giant mittens for second grade’s end-of-semester celebration.

Teacher Workroom News

  • Second grade needs giant mittens cut out for their end-of-semester celebration. Six classes each need approximately 44 cutouts of the large mittens and 22 cutouts of the mitten cuffs. The stencils for these are hanging on the wall in the Teacher Workroom. Red and white are the preferred colors but any color will be okay. For questions, please email Heather Roell Oshman at [email protected].
  • Several teachers have put in requests for copies, laminating, and binding. We need volunteers to help fill those requests. Stop by the teacher workroom to see who needs help.

  • The Summitt PTA has purchased a new laminator for the Teacher Workroom. Because it’s so fancy, a three-minute training is needed before using it. The wonderful office staff can show you the ins and outs of it before you use it.

Recycle those Pringles cans you won at Eagle Fest!
The third grade needs clean, dry Pringles cans (with lids). Please drop them off in a labeled container in the Great Hall.

Water Bottle and Wipe Collection

We are collecting these water bottles and wipes for kids that don’t have permanent homes. All donations are going to The Center for Child Protection. We set a goal for a hundred water bottles and wipes. The box for donations is in the Summitt Great Hall. Your donation would help greatly.
