Costumes on Friday for Red Ribbon Week
Monday began Summitt’s Red Ribbon Week which is a week to fight against drugs. Students will be receiving a red arm bracelet band this week to celebrate.

With Friday being the day of “My Story Will Not Involve Drugs,” students may wear their favorite story book character costume or Halloween costume on Friday. Should your student choose to dress up for the occasion, we want to remind them about our costume restrictions for this special day.

  • Normal school dress code expectations still apply.
  • Hats may be worn as part of a costume, but must be removed in the classroom upon teacher request.
  • Masks or any costume pieces that completely cover the face are not allowed.
  • Pretend weapons are also prohibited
  • In light of recent events, clown costumes and clown make-up are also prohibited.
  • Props are not recommended since students will be responsible for keeping up with them, and the school will not be responsible for lost or broken items.

Student will not be wearing costumes on Monday, October 31st.

Koblenz Movie Night on Friday
Come join the fun at Summitt Movie Night on Friday, October 28th. We will be showing “Zootopia” and “Ice Age: Collision Course” in the cafeteria and the Great Hall. A ticket will get you a snack pack with popcorn, a sweet, and a drink. Bring a blanket or a chair if you’d like. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movies start around 7 p.m.

The week of Summitt Movie Night: Wednesday through Friday, tickets will be on sale before school in the car line (for exact change or check) and after school in the Great Hall for $5. Tickets at the door will be $6. You may also purchase tickets by filling out the purchase tab at the bottom of the movie flyer and return it to your child’s teacher along with your check or cash payment. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Proceeds will benefit the Koblenz Exchange Program.

Can Contest
Our Fall Can Contest is under way! The class that turns in the most aluminum cans will win an ice cream party plus the Grand Champion Trophy! Individual prizes are awarded to the children who bring the most cans. Contest slips can be found on the community table in the Great Hall. To save paper, they will not be in the Monday folders – only at the Community table. The money that we get from collecting cans goes to campus improvements such as landscaping and Eagle Scout Projects. Help us turn trash into CASH! Slips will be accepted until November 30. Any ?????’s email Sharon Reed  [email protected]

Picture Retake Day
Fall retake picture day is Wednesday, November 2, for any child that was absent or if you wish for your child to have a retake. An order form went home this week for those students that were absent and the extras will be placed on the community information table in the Great Hall.

All 5th grade students will be receiving a handout with important dates and information for all magnet school programs. It is printed on dark green paper and has 6 pages worth of information.  Please be on the lookout for this to come home in their folder, especially if your student is considering applying to an AISD magnet school. The packet can be found here.

College Shirt Day- We are continuing to promote college awareness this year by wearing college/university shirts on Mondays. If your student has a college/university shirt for any school, we would love for them to wear it on Mondays. It is so fun to see all the shirts from around the world!!

GT News
We are so thrilled at the response to the After School GT Program!  We hope this continues to be a fun and meaningful time for your kids. We are making a few adjustments this month that we want to make you aware of.

1. We will have 25 slots for the GT students only.
2. Siblings will only be allowed to participate IF their parent is a volunteer. (Please note in your volunteer sign up notes if you will have other kids with you).

3. We are TESTING interest for a PM club that will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. on the same day.  We will only host this second option if we have 2 parent volunteers and at least 10 students sign up.  If enough people sign up then we will GO FOR IT!
