Gifted/Talented Nominations for Kinder thru 2nd The GT Nomination window for Kinder through 2nd grades opens on Monday, November 4th and ends on Friday, November 15th. Our theme this fall is Arctic Adventure, with fun activities planned all week, with Family Lunch on Wednesday, and Family Night on Thursday! NEW this year is the eWallet – Give students a secure, cash-free way to shop the fair. There is no charge to set up an eWallet. Parents simply create an account and authorize a spending limit on their credit card. All unused balances are returned to the credit card automatically after the fair is closed on Dec. 2. New plants in the flower beds Thanks to our Beautification Team and volunteers, we have lovely, new plants in the flowerbeds. Library Events from Ms. Richey Book Swap: Come by the library where we’ve installed a new book and magazine swap station. Located by the Eagles’ Nest, the Summitt Book Swap has books and magazines for kids and adults so come on by and grab an item or two to read – for yourself or your little one, or add to the collection. | October was Down Syndrome Awareness Month On Thurs., Oct. 10, we had a short presentation about Down Syndrome during assembly. We planned to show the first six minutes of this video, but encountered technical difficulties. We encourage you to watch the video with your family. In case your child has questions or you’d like more information on Down syndrome, we’ve provided resources below. Thank you! PE News from Coach Comsudi We will be focused on basketball skills and drills and our health topic for the month of November is all about the dangers of smoking. I am positive your children will be coming home to tell you all about our discussions…so just a heads up! They will be learning about the dangerous effects of second-hand smoke. A big thank you to our PTA who will be helping us purchase brand new gymnastics mats this school year through their grant program! I would also love to thank everyone who supported our Y-ties fundraiser. We raised over $2000 and will get to keep half of the profits! Beautification Team in Need of a few Hoses & Sprayers Summitt is in need of a couple of hoses and sprayers if you have some you might want to donate, please call or text me at (512) 944-7580 – Mary Ann. Thank you! 2nd Grade Holiday Mittens Please help ensure the 2nd graders have a wonderful holiday by volunteering to cut out large mittens with cuffs and put them together. You can do this at the school or home. We need 140 mittens completed by 12/5. If you can help, there are directions on the wall in the teachers workroom or contact Karen Reyna at [email protected]. Any help is greatly appreciated! Summitt Partnering with APD’s Operation Blue Santa Summitt is in collaboration with APD, Operation Blue Santa to collect toys for families in need during the holiday season. Boxes will be put in the main hallway from Nov. 5 – Dec. 17 for collection. Thank you for your generosity! Campus Advisory Council (CAC) The CAC currently needs two more parent representatives to serve on our Campus Advisory Council. This is another great way to remain connected to Summitt and our campus progress. If you are interested in serving on CAC, please email Principal Friede directly! Teacher Workroom Help Needed If you have 10-15 minutes to spare, the Teacher Workroom could use some help next week. Teachers need help with copying, die cutting, and laminating. Kealing Middle School Showcase If your student is interested in attending (or just learning more about) Kealing Middle School, they will have a showcase event on November 7th. This event gives families an opportunity to roam about the school, ask questions, meet teachers and current students, and get a feel for the program, all to help your student make a decision about applying. Night of the Robots On the night of December 6, starting at 5:30 pm, Night of the Robots will occur in the Applied Technology Center at Anderson High School. If you are a first-timer, NotR is a night where parents can drop off their children at a mini robotics night camp where they learn about engineering and robotics. Parents can enjoy a night off from the kids, which is usually the long-overdue break that they need! The age group ranges from Kindergarten to 5th grade, and there are multiple stations in which the kids can explore possible new interests. Sign up here. Austin ISD’s Middle School Fair Families of current and future middle school students are invited to Austin ISD’s 2019 Middle School Fair on Saturday, December 7 from 9 am-12 pm. Students and their families can learn about the diverse and innovative programming offered in Austin ISD, enjoy student performances, and hear from current students, families and faculty from our 19 middle schools about the amazing programs and classes open to our middle school students. Managing Meltdowns and Tantrums Parent/Caregiver Workshop on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019. Join Austin Child Guidance Center for our low cost parent workshop to get in-depth and effective training from ACGC’s experts designed to help your family flourish. Limited space available. Managing Meltdowns & Tantrums Workshop When children have a hard time managing their emotions it can turn into meltdowns and tantrums. Meltdowns and tantrums can be effectively prevented, managed, and treated. In this workshop, parents will be able to tell the difference between a meltdown and a tantrum, will learn tools to respond to and prevent meltdowns and tantrums, and will be given resources for when to seek additional help.
