PE News
I would like to thank everyone for their patience and cooperation on Thursday for our wild and crazy Indoor Field Day as well as a big thanks to all of our 5th grade helpers! We hope the kids enjoyed the day!! Field Day on Friday wouldn’t have been such a success without the help of Alexa Keller, Kelli Whitford, Becca Phillips, Denise Richey, Heather Doyle, Jeanie Cavendar, Cathy Harris, Gordon Jones, Robert Pham, Thuy Nguyen and Coach Woodward! Thanks for all your help running stations! And thank you Mrs. Fleming for getting all of the kids soaking wet at the end of the day.
This Wednesday after school at 3 pm (if the weather permits), our Fuel Up to Play 60 team will be repainting the four square and hopscotch lines out on the fire lane!
Modern Woodmen of America has donated 850 health and nutrition kits to our school. They include a bookmark and a jump rope. I will be handing out all of those next week! Thank you, Modern Woodmen!!

Boosterthon Fun Run
Please accept a huge thank you for all of your support for the Boosterthon Fun Run. It was an amazing success and just goes to show what a great school community Summitt has in its students, parents, teachers, staff, family and friends. Third Grade Rocket Launch
The third graders will hold their annual Rocket Launch on Wednesday, June 1. The launch times for classes are every 30 minutes from 8-11 a.m. Your child’s teacher will have the class launch times.
Bulletin Board designer needed
Are you creative? Want to volunteer but don’t have much free time? We are looking for someone to update and maintain the PTA bulletin boards in the lobby of the Great Hall. Contact Nicole at [email protected].
Student medication pick up
All medications must be picked up, disposed of, or sent home at the end of each school year. District rules state that elementary age children may carry inhalers home in their backpack. ALL other medications must be picked up by a parent. Any medications left on campus the last day of school will automatically be disposed of at 3 pm. If your child has medication or an inhaler you should have received a note home as to your preference of the disposition. Please return to the nurse or front office ASAP!!

HOW CAN WE ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO READ OVER THE SUMMER?
Studies show that when kids read 20 minutes or more everyday over the summer they maintain or improve their reading skills from the year before. Conversely, no summer reading causes many students to lose their school year reading progress.
As parents and teachers we all understand the importance of reading, even during our summer break–especially during our summer break! This summer the Summitt Elementary Library is hosting a Reading Scavenger Hunt to help encourage and excite our students to continue reading even during the dog days of summer. Students and their families are encouraged to participate in any number of the various reading programs going on around town in an effort to complete the Summitt Reading Scavenger Hunt. By reading 25 books, students and families will then be invited to the Back-to-School Breakfast hosted in honor of our “hungry” readers. Encourage Summer Reading in AWESOME Places
One of the most effective ways to get kids to read during the summer is to offer them super fun reading spots! Here’s a list of free & fun places that kids will enjoy cuddling up with a book along with affiliate links to a few of our favorite reading items:
• In a pillow fort
• In your closet
• At the pool
• At the park on a picnic — we always take our Fold & Carry Picnic Blanket with us for easy reading set-up!
• Outside on a blanket
• At the beach — here’s a cool beach book list for them too!
• On car trips
• When you attend an outdoor summer storytime (usually hosted at your local library)
• In a tent — here’s a great list of books for camping & tents !
• Outside – at night – with a flashlight!
• In a hammock (one of our favorite spots!)
And reading doesn’t always have to be books either! Encourage them to read the back of the cereal box, signs at the pool, the flavors of ice cream if you’re out for a treat — reading can happen in lots of places during the summer.

Anderson Robotics Camp
ANDERSON ROBOTICS CAMP (for Rising 5th-12th grades) is open for registration. The Anderson Robotics camp will give your students an opportunity to learn some valuable skills in the area of Robotics. During the week of July 18-21, campers will learn skills in Electronics and Computer Programming or 3D Printing and Engineering Design for robotics. During the week of July 25-28, campers will learn skills in VEX robotics. The goal of the Anderson Robotics team is for each camper not only to learn skills in Robotics, but to learn the skills of team work through Gracious Professionalism and Cooperation. Daisy 5K on Saturday
The Daisy 5k and Kids K will be at Camp Mabry (220 West 35th Street, Austin TX 78763) on Saturday, May 28th at 8 am. They have kindly given us a discount code of GOTR2016 that will give us $3 off the price of registration, making it $35/runner for the 5k and a mere $7 for the Kids 1-Miler (held on the official military track!!).
