Summitt Spring Fling This Saturday
The Summitt Spring Fling is just 3 days away! Ticket sales to the event
are now closed, but don’t worry if you can’t make it because you can
still contribute to our online auction or buy raffle tickets. Start
bidding on all Classroom Creations, Teacher Time and Talent, and all
other Silent Auction items now by registering at www.accelevents.com/e/SummittSpringFling2019.
Bidding is open now and the auction is available to anyone, so please
share with your family, friends and neighbors. Our fantastic Classroom
Creations are on display online & in the library so come by to check
them out before or after school. Each item has a 3 letter code to use
to search on the online auction website. Items can be viewed by
category. Directions for texting your bid is on the website. A Buy Now option
is also available for some items. If you Buy Now, you can pick up your
item in the library after school Friday or it will be kept in the office
for pick-up. All other items will be taken to the Spring Fling on
Saturday for bidding to continue.
Volunteers Still Needed
We need your help to make Spring Fling a success. There are shifts
before or after school this week selling raffle tickets under the front
awning by the drive through drop off. We also need volunteers to help
set up from 12-3 p.m. on Saturday at Norris Conference Center and to

Raffle Tickets on Sale NOW
Come by the table under the front awning by the drive through drop off
to buy your Spring Fling raffle tickets before or after school until May
3 or at the Spring Fling event. Tickets are $10 each, cash or check
only, and you do not have to be present at Spring Fling to win. You can
also send money in an envelope to your child’s teacher with your name,
phone and the number of tickets that you want. This year’s Spring Fling
raffle prizes are:
- $250 Uchi/Uchiko Gift Card by Chef Mike Martin
- 2-night stay at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio, breakfast for 4 included
Garden Workday also this Saturday
We have a busy Summitt weekend. Please join the Beautification Committee this Saturday May 4 at 9 am for a workday to install our pollinator gardens. The rain chances are decreasing, and barring lightning or severe weather, we will still be planting. Please bring work gloves, sun block, shovels, yard bags, gardening tools and plenty of water.
Have a middle or high school student who needs volunteer hours? We can use their help and will have a sign in sheet to email notices of hours worked.
Summitt’s Principal and Assistant Principals Appreciation Week
This week, April 29-May 3, we celebrate our principal, Kelly Friede (center), and our assistant principals, Celines Gauthier (right) and Valerie Sterne (left). Help make their week great by sending a note or card to school, bringing in a special treat, or stopping by the “big tent” with your child to take a silly circus selfie! Let’s come together as a community to make this week special for them!
Teacher Appreciation is Next Week, May 6-10
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. Please remember our classroom teachers, substitute teachers, special education teachers, foreign language, PPCD, Life Skills, Res/Inclusion, speech, and special area (PE, art, music, technology) teachers for all the hard work they do. Our teachers inspire our students to achieve their greatest potential, and their influence continues long after the students’ days are memories. So stop to say “thank you” in the hall, send a card or note to school to tell them how much they mean to you and your child, or bring a treat to show your appreciation. They all deserve to be recognized for their important role in our school community.

Monday, May 13– 3rd and 4th grade STAAR testing, 5th grade retest
Tuesday, May 14 – 3rd and 4th grade STAAR testing, 5th grade retest
Wednesday, May 15 – 5th grade STAAR testing
Thursday, May 16 – retest
** Please note that parents are not allowed on campus during STAAR testing due to confidentiality and security. Please schedule lunch with your student on another day.
The library will also be closed these days.
This is for all grade levels due to testing groups in rooms throughout the campus.

I wanted to send a quick word of thanks to all the students, staff, and families for all the kindness showered on me in the last few weeks in honor of Librarians’ Week. I’ve received many handwritten and colored cards, posters, balloons, flowers, lunch, gift cards, socks, scarves, soap, and more! Each and every bit of your love and caring reminds me of how blessed I am to live and work in such a wonderful community. Thank you so much for all your support.

As we finish up this school year, now is a good time to start thinking about getting ready for next school year before you get caught up in all your fun summer activities. Summitt is partnering with 1st Day School Supplies again this year in order to provide the exact supplies next year’s teachers have requested from their school supply lists, all delivered to your child’s classroom in time for the 1st day of school. Summitt Summer Camps
Thank you so much to all the friends and families who have already visited and registered for a week or two of fun at Camp Summitt! We are looking forward to a full house and encourage you to spread the word to all of our Summitt families. We’d love for your students to be a part of the first ever Camp Summitt! Camp will be divided into two 1 week sessions from 9am to 3pm with extended hours available if needed. Proceeds from Summitt Summer Camp are used to fund school-wide needs such as technology, classroom materials and professional development. Click here for details.

Enroll Your Child for 2019-2020 School Year TODAY
If you have not already, please Enroll NOW (scroll down for returning students). Enrolling early helps Summitt prepare accurately for the upcoming school year to minimize having to shift kids and teachers at the last minute. Early registration is also important because you will not be placed on a class list for Meet the Teacher Day until you have online registered.

Anderson Tennis Family Play Day
Are you a tennis player or always wanted to give it a try? In collaboration with the Capital Area Tennis Association, the Anderson Trojan Tennis Team is hosting a free day of tennis activities for all ages. Come meet the team and learn some of the basics or show off your skills hitting with some of our top players. Kids can earn a prize by visiting our fun tennis activity stations. No racquet? No problem! There will be some available to borrow.

Band News from our Vertical Team
Attention 5th graders! Are you interested in joining the Murchison Band? On Saturday May 4, the Murchison Band will be hosting an event to for students and directors will decide together what instrument they will learn in 6th grade. Digital Citizenship Guide – FREE to AISD Families & PTAs
Stratfor, a local company with global reach, has created a new Digital Citizenship Guide for students and parents. It’s part of Stratfor’s Cyber Security Basics series. This 108-page report is written to help provide tools and guidance for parents, teachers, and students about topics such as social media, privacy, cyber-bullying, online gaming, dark web, digital rights and more. Most users have to buy the report. The author is making it available at no cost to the AISD community. Camp Braveheart
Families can now apply for 2019’s Camp Brave Heart! Hospice Austin’s Camp Braveheart is an amazing and free of cost experience for students who have a death loss of a parent. Helping Our Children Grow and Develop Workshop
In this workshop, caregivers will learn about standard behavior within the developmental stages from ages five to fourteen. Caregivers will leave with knowledge about challenging behaviors that can arise during each stage and strategies that they can use to help navigate through these challenges.

Online Registration is now open for the Anderson High School Kids Summer Theater Camp, July 15-19, at Anderson High School. The Story Explorer Theater Camp runs from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. each day and is open to students who will be in grades 1-8 during the 2019-2020 school year. Austin Sunshine Camp
Austin Sunshine Camps has provided free fun-filled overnight summer camp programs for the children of the greater Austin area (Travis, Williamson, Caldwell, Hays and Bastrop counties) since 1928. All summer camp programs are provided free of charge for all campers who meet the 2018-2019 free or reduced school meals income eligibility guidelines. The Austin Child Guidance Center (ACGC) is also offering their Walk-In Counseling Service Clinic. Children up to the age of 17 as well as other family members can be seen without having to wait for an appointment. Caregivers can be seen without their child to consult about problem behavior, seek advice or get direction. Family members can for be seen for one walk-in session or return for more. Services can be provided in English or Spanish.
