Classroom pictures and Spring posed pictures Thursday
Spring and classroom group pictures will be taken on Thursday, March 10. Classroom group pictures are the ones with the entire class in the picture. The spring pictures are posed styles of the individual student.

If you want to order the classroom group photo, please fill out the flyer from your Monday Folder and turn it in with the payment ($15) on picture day.

The spring picture just needs to have the form returned with the style selected. These packets will be printed and shipped in approximately 3-4 weeks after picture day. Parents will then have the opportunity to purchase from the package and customize their purchase to meet their needs. There is no obligation to purchase and any unselected prints can be returned to the school. You do not need to pay for the spring picture upfront. The only payment needed upfront is if you want to order a picture of the classroom group photo.

Save the Date: Big World Recess * Boosterthon Fun Run * April 12th-21st
The Summitt Elementary PTA would like to introduce you to our new Spring fundraiser – the Boosterthon Fun Run! Our Fun Run program will last about 2 weeks – April 12th-21st – and be centered around Boosterthon’s world-class theme and program elements. This year’s theme is BIG WORLD RECESS, a global fitness theme all about building character through sports. This theme will be used to excite and educate the students through an exciting Pep Rally, daily messages, and (on the last day) participation in the Fun Run! ALL students will be included in the programming and the Fun Run, regardless of financial participation. More information will be coming home soon with your child about the program and how to collect pledges. In the meantime, please view this video for a sneak peek at Big World Recess: https://vimeo.com/46523531

AISD Online Registration
Online registration for the next school year has begun. Parents/guardians of AISD students will have the option to online register (verify information) for their children for the 2016-2017 school year. The system will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is accessed via the AISD Parent Cloud (my.austinisd.org). This new system will save time and will better accommodate busy schedules. More information is here.

Spring Fling information
Be on the look out for information coming from Homeroom Parents after Spring Break about Classroom Creation baskets for the Spring Fling silent auction. Each class is asked to pull together a basket of goodies, or some other kind of auction item, that will be on display and open for bidding the week of the event. These baskets are always a highlight of the auction.  Thank you to all of our recent donors and sponsors for this year’s Spring Fling.

Murchison MS Math Acceleration Information
Several incoming 6th grade parents have asked how to explore acceleration in Math during Middle School. This scenario is advantageous if your student is academically capable and shows the initiative to learn new concepts independently. Optimally, this would enable your student to take 7th grade Advanced Math as a 6th grader, Algebra as a 7th grader and Geometry as an 8th grader. Certainly this path is not for every student, but it is appropriate for some students. Below is information on the two approved Credit by Exam entities recognized by AISD.

Austin ISD provides testing for acceleration for free during Summer, 2016:
<Tuesday, June 7th at an AISD school site to be determined / Registration deadline May 13th
<Wednesday, July 20th at an AISD school site to be determined / Registration deadline May 19th
<Thursday, July 21st at an AISD school site to be determined / Registration deadline May 19th

The procedures for getting signed up for one of the above AISD administrations, contact your school Counselor for written permission form signed by the Counselor, Principal and parent.

Applications are due to Kathryn Parr, AISD Systemwide Testing, via USPS, fax or e-mail. [email protected], fax (512) 414-1774. Review materials are available on the UT website: http://www.utexas.edu/ce/k16/cbe-ea/study-guides/. Information on the specific TEKS for the course are available:http://www.tex.state.tx.us/teks/index.html. The University of Texas at Austin Extension Division – send e-mail to:[email protected] phone: (512)232-5000 USPS: P.O. Box 7700 Austin, TX 78713-7637 Austin location: IH 35 North @ Dean Keaton http://highschool.utexas.edu

If the AISD dates above do not work for your student, you can pay for the test through UT Extension Division and arrange a more convenient date. You must send a Credit by Exam – Individual Request, Standard form (available on the website) to request a CBEexam. The UT test for 6th grade Math is one test given in a 3 hour time span consisting of 63 multiple choice questions. This exam also has a detailed study guide and practice exam available on the website. Arrangements can be made to administer the test at Murchison during the summer (we would not charge a proctor fee) or you can choose to go to the UT Extension Division office in Austin. This exam costs $50.00, and there is a $30.00 proctor fee if you take the test on site with UT Extension Division in Austin. Further, a student with no prior instruction must earn a grade of 80 on the test to receive credit. Feel free to contact Adam Holman or Sammi Harrison at Murchison should you have further questions.
