No Name-Calling Week, January 21-24
We continue to celebrate No Name-Calling Week, reminding students that it is never okay to name‐call or bully another student for any reason. We are dressing up each day to celebrate kindness and diversity.

Wednesday, January 22: Diversity Day – Wear as many colors and patterns as you can to encourage blending differences together.
Thursday, January 23: Come as You are Day – Come in your pajamas and crazy hair to promote accepting yourself and others how you/they are.
Friday, January 24: Opposite /Backwards Day – Accept everyone’s differences…you be you!

Summitt Family Night at Brick Oven
Join us Thursday, January 23, from 4-9 pm at the Brick Oven Arboretum location. Mention you’re with Summitt, and we will receive a portion of the sales for the night! 

Parent Book Study
It is still not too late to join our book club! Please mark your calendars for the following dates: January 24, January 31, February 7, and February 21. All meetings will take place from 7:45-8:45 am. We will be reading The Whole-Brain Child! You are welcome to purchase your own copy, or you may borrow a copy from the campus. We hope you can join us.

Teacher Talent Show – January 31
Are you coming to the talent show? Are you ready to see the best talents Summitt has to offer? Teacher Talent Show is on Friday January 31, at 7 pm in the Summitt cafeteria. Tickets will be sold January 27-31 at 7:20 am and 3:05 pm in the Great Hall. The tickets will also be sold the night of the show. The first five rows are $10 per seat. The rest of the tickets are $5 each. Concession items will be available for purchase at the show. Our Teacher Talent Show benefits the Koblenz Exchange Program. See you at the show!

The Summitt Lion Dragon Dance Team – Tet Show!

Save the Date for Summitt’s 4th Annual Multicultural Night
On Friday, March 6, at 6:00 pm, Summitt will host our 4th Annual Multicultural Night to celebrate the diverse cultures of Summitt. This event is FREE for the entire family. If you are interested in sharing your family’s cultural traditions at Multicultural Night, please fill out our participation survey by February 7.

Camp Summitt
Camp Summitt is back again this summer! Once again some of our favorite Summitt teachers will be sticking around the first two weeks in June to have some extra fun in the sun with our favorite Summitt Eagles. We’ll have some camps from last year returning, as well as some new ones. Summitt Eagle Fun Run – Feb. 17 thru Feb. 28
We are so excited to announce that our school will be participating in the Apex Fun Run this year as our major Spring semester fundraiser! Apex Fun Run is a two-week interactive leadership program combined with a fun run fundraiser that helps schools all over the country raise funds, while promoting leadership, good character and fitness.With parents’ and guardians’ help, students are challenged to get pledges for the laps they will run on Fun Run day to help our school. Students will run for 30 minutes and will run an average of 26-36 laps around the Apex Raceway. The maximum amount of laps is 36 and each lap is 1/16th of a mile. Through Apex’s online pledging system, sponsors can pledge per lap or any flat donation amount for students, and can pledge from anywhere in the world!

Fabulous Fridays
Fabulous Fridays are back again starting this Spring! Some of the best learning and bonding happens informally through play and pastimes such as cooking favorite family recipes with your kids, sharing beloved books, board games, or even cartoons from your childhood. Summitt Appreciation Weeks
Want to say “thank you” to everyone who makes your child’s school week a good experience?  The Summitt Appreciation Team created “thank yous” this fall semester for our custodians, food service workers, cafeteria monitors, bus drivers, and teaching assistants. Next semester, we will thank and celebrate national appreciation weeks for crossing guards, counselors, academic specialists, librarians, office administration, principal and vice principal, teachers, and nurses. 

To show your appreciation, go to the Summitt online store to donate $5 or more. We also accept cash/check donations and can send you more information to make this happen. Email questions to [email protected].

Teacher Workroom Help Needed
If you have 10-15 minutes to spare, the Teacher Workroom could use some help next week. Teachers need help with copying, die cutting, and laminating. Hours are 7:10 am-3:30 pm. If you can help, please contact Karen Reyna at [email protected].

Murchison Student Visit
Murchison Middle School will host all of the 5th grade students on the morning of January 24. The MMS PTA will be hosting tours the following week for parents. For more information, click here.

Kobelnz Karneval
The Austin-Kobelnz Sister Cities program will be holding a fundraiser for the Austin-Koblenz Student Exchange programs on Saturday, February 22, from 6-10 pm at the Saengerrunde Hall (next to Scholz Garten). The evening will include plenty of German food and drink, dancing, live music by the Walburg Boys, a costume contest, and even a special appearance by our very own Watch Dogs! Click here for more information and to buy tickets.

Texas PTA Legislative Action STRAIGHT TALK
Texas PTA will be starting STRAIGHT TALK session during the interim years of the Legislative Sessions. These years, instead of a rally they will be having panels on a topic, and Councils are encouraged to host viewing parties. Make it Matter Meet-up: “Planning for Census 2020”

This is a continuation of the Census 2020 info-session held at the December Meeting, but this time with a focus on planning for your PTA campus (e.g. ways to promote it, connect with other PTAs / schools and why the Census matters). Joining us will be John Lawler, Census Program Manager for Travis County, to provide updates and answer any questions you may have. Come prepared to learn about ways to activate around Census 2020 and connect with others to exchange ideas.

Tuition Based Pre-Kindergarten Registration is Now Open
Children who are four years old on or before September 1 of the current school year and who do not qualify for the Early Childhood Special Education program (ECSE) or the state-mandated Pre-K program for qualifying students are eligible to enroll in the tuition-based Pre-K program. Please visit the district’s website for information regarding the registration process and eligibility requirements.

Girls’ Softball
Calling all girls ages 4 to 14! Northwest Softball is gearing up for our best season yet. Practices begin in late February, and games run March through May. We focus on teaching softball and having fun – all abilities are welcome! Registration closes January 24 and spots are filling fast, so sign up today! Visit nwsoftball.org for more information.

ACGC In Action: Behind the Scenes and What You Need to Know
Did you know that Austin Child Guidance Center has the only walk-in clinic for children in Central Texas? Or that in 2007 we still used typewriters? Join us for ACGC In Action where you’ll learn fun facts, details about our services, and ways to make a difference in a child’s life. Austin Child Guidance Center’s Trauma Trainings
ACGC offers interactive, engaging and educational 1.5 hour trauma trainings that are tailored to the needs of various audiences, including professionals and parents. Trainings include information from the most current brain-based research on trauma and incorporate materials from Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and National Child Traumatic Stress Network.
