| Teacher Talent Show – This Fri, January 31 Are you coming to the talent show? Are you ready to see the best talents Summitt has to offer? Teacher Talent Show is on Friday January 31, at 7 pm in the Summitt cafeteria. Tickets will be sold January 27-31 at 7:20 am and 3:05 pm in the Great Hall. The tickets will also be sold the night of the show. The first five rows are $10 per seat. The rest of the tickets are $5 each. Concession items will be available for purchase at the show. Our Teacher Talent Show benefits the Koblenz Exchange Program. See you at the show! Crossing Guard appreciation this week This week is Summitt’s crossing guard appreciation week (January 27 thru 31). Our crossing guards keep our students safe, no matter the weather, often putting their own safety on the line to ensure students and families get across the street safely. And they sometimes have to deal with impatient or speeding drivers! Summitt’s Appreciation Team is encouraging everyone to give their crossing guard a special note, hug or high five this week to show their appreciation. | Volleyball Playday at UT A few weeks ago we received some unfortunate news about Volleyball Playday at Explore UT. The 5th grade Volleyball Playday has been canceled this year due to construction around the stadium and Rec Center (It’s a mess, y’all). We will still learn the rotation and play games in our volleyball unit with grades 4 and 5 and we also plan to have a staff volleyball afternoon! We will keep you updated. Save the Date for Summitt’s 4th Annual Multicultural Night On Friday, March 6, at 6:00 pm, Summitt will host our 4th Annual Multicultural Night to celebrate the diverse cultures of Summitt. This event is FREE for the entire family. If you are interested in sharing your family’s cultural traditions at Multicultural Night, please fill out our participation survey by February 7. Fabulous Fridays Fabulous Fridays are back again starting this Spring! Some of the best learning and bonding happens informally through play and pastimes such as cooking favorite family recipes with your kids, sharing beloved books, board games, or even cartoons from your childhood. Camp Summitt Camp Summitt is back again this summer! Summitt Eagle Fun Run – Feb. 17 thru Feb. 28 We are so excited to announce that our school will be participating in the Apex Fun Run this year as our major Spring semester fundraiser! Apex Fun Run is a two-week interactive leadership program combined with a fun run fundraiser that helps schools all over the country raise funds, while promoting leadership, good character and fitness.With parents’ and guardians’ help, students are challenged to get pledges for the laps they will run on Fun Run day to help our school. Students will run for 30 minutes and will run an average of 26-36 laps around the Apex Raceway. The maximum amount of laps is 36 and each lap is 1/16th of a mile. Through Apex’s online pledging system, sponsors can pledge per lap or any flat donation amount for students, and can pledge from anywhere in the world! Parent / Community Principal Profile Meeting Date & Time: Please join AISD on February 25, 2020 from 6:00pm-7:30pm in the Summitt Library to develop principal profile. Selecting the permanent principal for our school is an extremely important task. The process for determining the principal will include meeting with parents and school staff to identify characteristics deemed important for the permanent Summitt principal. The Principal interview committee will use the principal profile developed at this meeting to choose interview questions for the candidates. Your input at this meeting is invaluable! New Principal Interview Committee: Thank you to everyone who submitted a letter of interest regarding serving on the new Principal Interview Committee. The Campus Advisory Council (CAC) met on January 27th and determined that the following individuals will serve: · CAC co-chair (parent) – Jennifer Ballow · CAC co-chair (teacher) – Thuy Nguyen · Non-CAC parent – Phuong Palafox · Non-CAC teacher or non-teaching staff – Denise Richey · Parent/guardian at-large (may or may not be a CAC member) – Eli Erickson · Teacher at-large (may or may not be a CAC member) – Heidi Meurer (Alternates in case any of the above cannot serve: Teacher/Staff – Erin Farris and Parent – Heather Roell). This committee, which will also include the Associate Superintendent and Executive Director, will recommend three finalists to the Superintendent for consideration. The Superintendent will make the final recommendation to the Board of Trustees. Principal Selection Timeline: The timeline for the selection process is as follows: February 25, 2020 – Meeting with faculty (3:15pm-4:45pm) and parents (6:00pm-7:30pm) to develop principal profile; meeting held at school March 9, 2020 – Principal Interview Committee meets to develop interview questions using the principal profile with Executive Director of Elementary Schools March 26, 2020 – Committee interviews candidates to identify 3 finalists April 2, 2020 – Superintendent interviews the 3 finalists April 27, 2020 – Selected candidate presented to Board for approval For Current 5th Grade Families: Course Sheet Night: Join us on the MMS Campus on February 4th from 5:30 – 8 pm. | VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Summitt Appreciation Weeks Want to say “thank you” to everyone who makes your child’s school week a good experience? The Summitt Appreciation Team created “thank yous” this fall semester for our custodians, food service workers, cafeteria monitors, bus drivers, and teaching assistants. Next semester, we will thank and celebrate national appreciation weeks for crossing guards, counselors, academic specialists, librarians, office administration, principal and vice principal, teachers, and nurses. Kobelnz Karneval The Austin-Kobelnz Sister Cities program will be holding a fundraiser for the Austin-Koblenz Student Exchange programs on Saturday, February 22, from 6-10 pm at the Saengerrunde Hall (next to Scholz Garten).
