Boosterthon on Thursday in the Gym
Due to our lovely weather, the Boosterthon Fun Run on Thursday is now an indoor Glow Run in the Gym. Please note the children will be running on a different schedule. If you want to sign up to help when your child is running, refer to the SCHEDULE BELOW and sign up accordingly.
There’s still time to get pledges from friends and family. We are almost at our goal, so sign up on funrun.com so we can continue to have Math and Reading specialists at our school.
Parents and other guardians are welcome to come cheer the kids on! Another way to support all of our students & the success of the Fun Run is marking laps for them. The kids will be wearing stickers to keep track of their laps. So we need 4 volunteers for each run to help mark laps on students’ stickers. In an effort to keep the gym dry, we will not be having water stations, please sign-up to mark laps, or just come and cheer the kids on. Sign up to help here.

Need volunteers for 5th grade choice sheets
We need volunteers to help in the computer lab on Wednesday, February 28 from 8 am-12 pm. The 5th graders will be entering their choice sheets into the computer system for Murchison. It is important that we have people to help oversee that what is on the paper choice sheet is what gets entered into the computer. Please consider helping us to get this task accomplished so that choice sheets are entered by students as accurately as possible. Please contact Courtney Cardosa @512- 414-4248 or [email protected] for more info.

Volunteer to help at Spring Fling
We need volunteers! If you are interested in event planning, soliciting donations or marketing, please contact [email protected].
Got the time?
This section features volunteer opportunities with specific time estimates. Check here each week to see what’s needed. That way, if you “got the time,” you can help out regularly for 5 to 15 minutes, or for a couple hours on a one-time project.
-
If you can spare 15 minutes after the 7:45 am bell, please stay to open the door for late students.
-
If you’ve planning to have lunch with your child this next week, please consider being a door opener. There are around 40 visitors each day between 10:30 am and 1 pm. That’s a lot of door answering for our front office! You can help the office staff during their busiest time while hanging out with your child. You do not have to sit next to the door or open it up in person. You will be given a phone to answer the front doorbell and then buzz in the visitors. If you’re able to help, please speak with Shana or Elizabeth in the front office.
Yearbook orders
If you ordered a yearbook on the paper form during Meet the Teacher Night in August, we will send out a receipt soon. If you need to order a yearbook for $25, you can do it online at https://inter-state.com/YearbookEntry/21991d
If you have taken any pictures at Summitt or a Summitt event, please email them to [email protected]. Fifth grade families: we need a baby picture of your child! We need their name and their homeroom teacher’s name on the email.

Theater Arts information
Message from Murchison Theater Arts teacher to Fifth Grade parents: There are 2 different Theatre Arts class choices on the choice sheet for 6th grade 2018_19:
-
Theatre Arts (S or Y) is for EVERYONE – regardless of experience or interest. Students do not have to love performing in front of people. There is a little bit of performance but mostly I do all the DESIGN elements of Theatre: makeup design, set design, puppets, sound design, costumes. Lots of projects and hands on activities, as well as field trips. We have lots of fun! This is a great class for students who love Theatre of course but also perfect for those kiddos who just don’t know what elective they want to take – they will find something they like in my class.
-
Advanced Theatre Production (Y) is for students who want to be in the play production process — either as an actor or as a behind-the-scenes tech. (This class takes place on the cafeteria stage). To get into this class, kids have to complete the application process as well as choose it on their choice sheet.
If your student will not be attending Murchison, please contact Courtney Cardosa @512- 414-4248 or [email protected]. I will need to communicate with the AISD school, magnet, or academy that your child will attend to ensure that they have a schedule. You may also contact me with questions or concerns.
AISD and Community Events
School boundary maps
AISD has a website that allows families to see exactly what apartments, duplexes, streets, etc are in each school attendance area. If you want to know if a certain apartment complex or house on a certain street is in Summitt’s school zone, there is a website that will help. Go to http://mobilityblueprint.net/, click on Go to Map, and you can either register or just sign in as a guest by putting in your Zip Code. From there, you can enter in an address or school to find out the schools in that area.

The film includes interviews with kids, teens, experts, and parents, including Michael Phelps. Angst helps people identify and understand the symptoms of anxiety and encourages them to reach out for help. It will be on Sunday, February 25, 4:30 pm at Triumphant Love Lutheran Church. Tickets are $10/adult, $5/student, sold online. Note that this is not a religious movie.
