Postcard Love Letters Needed We need your postcards! The Texas 86th Legislative Session is upon us. The Texas PTA is working to advocate for our students during this session and needs your help. The Summitt PTA included two postcards in your student’s Monday folder. These postcards are for you to write your legislators in the Texas House and the Texas Senate. You can find your legislators at https://fyi.capitol.texas.gov.

What should you write about? You can find out more about the Texas PTA Legislative Priorities at https://www.txpta.org/legislative-priorities. There are several issues they are advocating for on behalf of our students ranging from school finance to meaningful assessments to health and safety. Find one that speaks to you and why you support this issue. A couple of sentences is all you need.

An example for school finance would be something like:  “Texas is ranked 43rd in the nation in per pupil spending. We see this as local property taxes and PTAs attempt to fill the gap with funding positions We also see school districts forced to make hard choices of cutting imperative positions like nurses, lunch monitors, and reading specialists.”

If you need additional postcards, there are some in the table in the Great Hall or you can print them yourself.

Postcards can be sent back to school in your student’s folder or can be delivered to the box in the Great Hall. Check the paperwork in Monday folders for more information or email Heather Roell Oshman at [email protected].
