Lockdown Drill next week

In compliance with AISD policy, all lockdown drills are to be planned in advance and announced to parents and staff at least 24 hours in advance before the lockdown drill. Lockdowns are conducted for intruder or violence on campus. A lock down drill should take no longer than 30 seconds to complete and students will be given an opportunity to process the experience by their teacher.

In accordance with this policy this is our official notification that a lockdown drill will be conducted on Tuesday, December 18 at 8:30 AM.

Morning drop off and afternoon pick up procedures

As a friendly reminder, please do not drop off children prior to 7:10 a.m. Our doors do not open until 7:10, which means students do not have adequate supervision until this time. Morning assembly begins promptly at 7:30, and we are working to keep the assembly quick so that we can get students to their respective classrooms promptly. If you haven’t come into assembly, give it a try! We have a theme for each day of the week!

The tardy bell rings at 7:45 a.m. If morning assembly runs late, or if there are traffic and weather delays that prevent a timely entrance into school, we will withhold tardies for a few extra minutes. The office staff will make this decision based on current circumstances, and we will communicate with teachers. If your child is tardy, please have them come to the front office to obtain a tardy slip before walking to class. Once the tardy bell rings at 7:45, please help us begin our day by exiting the campus safely and promptly. This will help ensure all of our students have access to all possible instructional minutes each day. It is our goal to begin instruction each day as close to 7:45 each day.  If you plan on being on the campus after 7:45, please come to the office for a Raptor badge. We appreciate your help in this capacity! Thank you!

Car Line

With the rainy weather, it’s understandable if you would like to adjust your pick up location for after school dismissal. If you would like to change your pick- up location for afternoon dismissal, simply call the office prior to 2:45 p.m., and we will get the message to your child. If you choose to change your location to the car line, please remember to have a sign with your child’s name written clearly and legibly. This helps us to keep the car line moving swiftly! Thank you!Support Summitt’s Appreciation Team

Thank You for Stockings and Mittens

Hooray hooray! The 2nd grade mittens and 3rd grade stockings are complete and to the teachers for the students to decorate. Many thanks to the grandmoms and anyone else that helped. The teachers and students appreciate your time, effort and fortitude.

PSA from the Office: Please Label Your Kid’s Items ASAP

Many students got new Summitt hoodies and jackets last week. We don’t want them to get lost! Please take a moment to write your child’s first and last name on their jackets, sweatshirts, lunch bags and waters! That way when they are turned into lost and found they can find their way back to your child.

GOODWILL Section:

Volunteers needed for SUMMITT LIBRARY INVENTORY 2018

Each year in an effort to keep our collection current and accurate, the librarian must scan each and every item in the library collection, including all book, videos, CDs, and professional materials. With about 20,000 items to scan, and a 2 week window in which to do it, the librarian is very appreciative of any extra hands. Volunteers must be able to go from a sitting position to a standing position comfortably, and monitor a few basic operations on a computer.

This is not a good fit for volunteers with young kiddos, as it requires steady concentration so as not lose one’s place. It is a great fit for anyone looking to donate their time in a quiet setting with minimal interaction with others. Sign up details here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E49A9AA2FA5F58-summitt

Got the time

This section features volunteer opportunities. Check here each week to see what’s needed. That way, if you “got the time,” you can find the perfect option.

  • If you have any time now through December 20, please consider helping our librarian with inventory, such as scanning barcodes and looking for lost books. Please contact Denise Richey ([email protected]) with questions.
  • If you have time on December 20, please help open the front door and direct volunteers to the office to get name tags for class parties. Parties are starting at 7:45 am, 9:00 am, and 1:00 pm.
