Marathon Kids (MK) has partnered with Nike to bring Austin ISD an exciting new look to the program. We are the only district in the nation that gets to participate for free.
Miles logged for MK will no longer be done outside of school. All walking/running will be done during their WOW time during school hours. The goal this year is that all students will complete 4 Marathons…for a total of 104.8 miles. Students will keep a log in their classroom and each completed marathon will be turned in for an immediate prize in PE class. Prizes include an exclusive Nike T-shirt for completing the first marathon, shoelaces for the 2nd, shoe tags for the 3rd and a Nike bracelet when the final marathon log is complete. We have been talking to the kids about the new program and they are very excited!!
All students must participate in the program as it is district policy that Marathon Kids activities have replaced the state mandated WOW (Work Out for Wellness) time. However, if you would NOT like your child to receive these free prizes from Nike throughout the year…you may opt-out by emailing me at [email protected]
Also, please mark your calendars for a very special Marathon Kids Kick-off at The University of Texas on Saturday, October 17th. The fun starts at 9:30am. (UPDATED Start Time 10/8)
