Here are some important messages from our beloved staff:
A message from the Counselors:
Hello Summitt! Although this is not the way that we envisioned welcoming you back, we would like to welcome you back in the format that might become our new “normal for now.” Mrs. Cardosa and Mrs. Richards have been communicating and planning over the break. One of our top priorities is to make sure that we continue with Mindful Monday practices. Now, as much as ever, we need to remember and practice our skills to remain calm and mindful. We are going to try and make the Mindful Monday activities simple and applicable for both kids and adults to use. This first one (5,4,3,2,1 Grounding) is one that we have done before and that some of you use frequently. Grounding exercises are important and can help us calm when we are feeling stressed or anxious.
Mindful Monday Exercise for the week of 3/23: 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Exercise
When you’re feeling anxious, pause and settle your mind by naming: 5 things you can see 4 things you can hear 3 things you can touch 2 things you can smell 1 thing you can taste Mrs. Cardosa and Mrs. Richards are also here to help and support students and families. We can’t possibly check in with almost 900 students individually. We are asking for you to email us if you or your student would like a check in. We can figure out from there if students need a phone call or a Zoom check-in and make arrangements for that. We are also here to help if you are struggling with food or other needed resources. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.

The Summitt Counseling Corner has resources for social-emotional needs you or your student might have at this time. Please check it out and share as you see fit. Mrs. Cardosa and Mrs. Richards are also planning to send out some digital lessons to continue to support students. Be on the lookout! We miss you all and are already looking forward to seeing your sweet faces again.
A Message from Mrs. Neill, our Campus Tech Facilitator
Hi Families: Please check your email from AISD concerning resources for at home learning. The AISD website has information about student access to the AISD Portal and help for remembering their login information (scroll down to bottom of page). All 3rd – 5th grade students use this login on a regular basis. Parents will need to assist younger students. The site also offers free resources for students to use in school and at home. Once in the Portal, students will not need any other logins.
If this is the first time for your student to access the Portal, they will not have all the tiles needed to access different sites. To add sites like iStation, Dreambox, BrainPOP, etc., go to the red bar at the top of the screen and click on Dashboard. In the drop down box, select Applications. You will see all the student resources and by clicking on the Bookmark, you can add these tiles to their Dashboard for easy access (mouse over the bottom left corner of the tile to see the bookmark, it will be white until you select it). Teachers will be giving you more information about using the Portal depending on grade level. Take care!
A big HELLO to the Summitt community from Coach Comsudi and Coach Woodward!
Like you, we are currently learning new ways to communicate and are working hard to keep our families healthy and safe. The Austin ISD Physical Education and Health Department is working to create a list of resources that we will be able to share very soon. For now, we want to promote 60-minutes of daily physical activity. Get that heart rate up, Eagles! If your exercise can be done outdoors in the sunlight and fresh air…amazing! A fantastic option for indoor movement is Go Noodle! This resource is free for students and has awesome games, dances and physical activities that integrate all core content areas.
Please stay home, stay safe, wash your hands and take care of your health! We miss you!! ❤️ “If you don’t take care of your body, where will you live?”
Hello from Mrs. Richey!
Dear Summitt Eagles, I hope you all are well! I miss you so much and have been thinking about you every day. Since we won’t be seeing each other again for a bit, I wanted to share with you some great resources you can use at home during this time away: please read my Library Ledger for the week of March 23. If you need anything at all, please feel free to send me an email or call me in the library (512-414-4249). I’ll be checking email and voicemail regularly. Stay tuned for next week’s newsletter!

Hello from the APEX Team
Our friends at APEX put together something to help keep the kids busy at home – an Apex activity book that even has links to some great leadership lesson videos that tie into the Game On theme from this year. Keep moving!
| PLEASE Register Your Child Today for the 2020-2021 School Year|
Returning & New Student Registration is now open. Please, please register as soon as possible to help prevent beginning of the year and mid-year staffing changes and allow Summitt to get the most resources possible! Visit the Austin ISD Parent Cloud (https://my.austinisd.org) to register your child for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Even if you are unsure of your next year options, you can still register and if something changes your child will simply be automatically dropped after they are “no shows” in August. This allows for our school to secure our teachers for the next year and it is always better to over plan than under! Thank you!
We currently have only 288 of the 861 students registered for next year.
