Just a quick update on the Summitt Library. . . After a very busy summer with several large scale updates, the library is open to staff, students, and families once again! If you hadn’t heard the library received new paint, new trim, a new circulation desk and new carpet. It looks lovely!
Additionally, with the support of our generous PTA and a private donation from a Summitt family, the library was able to purchase 2 beautiful new bookshelves for our paperback collection, and a number of decorative elements to give the space some sparkle. Thank you to Sharon Reed and Evette Alvarado for donating your time and company helping me get the books shifted and the space ready for our 850 students. A big thanks to my mother and father-in-law, Gary and Susie Richey, for the all the soft touches–curtains, pillows, and puffy clouds. Also, thanks to two of our WatchDOGS, Mr. Walters and Mr. Jordan, for reviving our old aquarium from the algae ridden eyesore it once was, to the gorgeous oasis it now is! Please stop by and take a peek. It’s breathtaking!
Lastly, thank you to all the kind and caring families that babied our Summitt Guinea pigs, Mouse and Whiskers, over the long hot summer:
and, of course, the Sutherland Family for your continued support.
The library is my home away from home, and I love being able to share it with all our Summitt Families. I hope you and your children enjoy it as much as I do.

Got the time?
This section features volunteer opportunities with specific time estimates. Check here each week to see what’s needed. That way, if you “got the time,” you can help out regularly for 5 to 15 minutes, or for a couple hours on a one-time project.
If you are free 7:45 to 8:15 am any morning, at 2:15 pm on Tuesdays or Fridays, or 10:30 am on Mondays or Tuesdays, please consider helping Mrs. Richey (email@example.com) in the Summitt Library. She would love help sorting library cards, inventorying new books, and creating book bins.
If you have anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour, please stop by the teacher workroom to see who needs help. Contact Karen Reyna (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions.
If you are free 10:30 am to 11:30 am any day during the week, please consider helping out in the cafeteria. Pre-K and Kinder classes are still getting used to their lunchtime routines and need a little extra help. Contact Shana in the front office (email@example.com) with questions.

Summitt is looking for volunteers who would be willing to do a 5-10 minute presentation about their career during morning assembly time. We would like to have career talk Tuesdays once or twice a month to expose all of our eagles to some of the many possibilities that exist. If you would be willing to come to morning assembly one Tuesday morning for 5 minutes or so and present, please email Courtney Cardosa at firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to trying to schedule as many careers as possible. Thanks in advance.
