15 Aug

Meet the Teacher tomorrow!

Meet the Teacher will be on Thursday, Aug. 16 from 3:30-6 pm for Pre-K and Kinder, and 4-6 pm for other grades. This event is your chance to purchase T-shirts (new lower price!), PTA memberships, sign up for homeroom duties, meet other families in your class, etc. Doors will open at 3:30 pm for Pre-K/Kindergarten and 4 pm for all other grades. This is a come-and-go event so you do not have to get there when it starts.

  • When you enter, go to the cafeteria to fill out an order form to purchase T-shirts, annual PTA memberships, headphones, agendas, yearbooks, etc. YOU MUST PAY FOR ITEMS AT THE CASHIER BEFORE PICKING THEM UP AT EACH STATION. We accept check, cash and credit cards.

  • Get your student teacher assignments by lining up by grade in the Cafeteria. Summitt Elementary staff will help you find out the name of your student’s teacher.

  • You can skip the line and order online! The Summitt Store is open and you can order now! Go to and you will be able to order online and then pick up PTA memberships, assignment books, T-shirts, headphones, etc. at Meet the Teacher Night. You can pay with credit card or bank transaction via PayPal.

  • The online store will be open until Thursday, Aug. 16 at noon.

  • If you ordered school supplies online at the end of the year, your supply kits will already be distributed to your child’s classroom. School supply kits include headphones and agendas for necessary grades, so there is no need to purchase those additional items.

  • If you didn’t order supplies online, bring your school supplies to leave in your classroom.

  • We love our Summitt alumni! We’d love to have our middle and high schoolers come and help at Meet the Teacher. They can get volunteer hours and see former teachers! They can help distribute supplies, show parents to the classrooms, entertain younger students while their parents fill out forms, etc.

  • There will be tables in the Great Hall with information on after school care, after school clubs/activities, etc.

  • Because there will be volunteers setting up and teachers will be getting their classrooms ready, please do not arrive before your designated time.

Meet the Teacher Volunteers Needed!
You can help make Meet the Teacher a success. We need people to greet parents, hand out agendas, be cashiers, and more. The PTA split the night into shifts so volunteers have time to go to their own student’s teacher classrooms. There are several shifts available.

Pre-K and Kindergarten Social
After you find out your child’s classroom teacher on Thursday, come meet up with other kids and families on Saturday at Silver Grill Cafe on Saturday, August 18th, 9 a.m. This is a great way for your child to meet a friendly face to look for on his/her first day of school! Bring the whole family to eat breakfast or just to drink a cup of coffee and play on the playground.

Boo Hoo, Woo Hoo Breakfast
Boo Hoo (or Woo Hoo) Breakfast is the first day of school (August 20th) at 7:45 a.m. Please join us in the library if you have a pre-k or kindergarten student, if you are new to Summitt or if you are a parent/guardian in need a hug or a high-five to start off the school year.

We need seasoned parents to sign up to donate breakfast items. Please bring them to the library that morning before school starts.

Join the PTA!
Meet the Teacher is this week! This is the perfect time to meet your child’s teacher and show your support for Summitt Elementary by joining the PTA. All are welcome. Remember just by joining you are giving funds to support programs that benefit our students. Your membership will last for this current school year. Go to Summitt’s Online store and purchase your membership today!

School Supplies List
Here is a link with the list of school supplies. Once you open the document, you can click on the item to see a picture of the school supply. Please disregard the first item if it says Box Size – Shipping. The deadline to order school supplies online has passed, so these are the items you need to purchase. You can bring them to Meet the Teacher Night. The link to a folder with all grades:

Wanted: Homeroom Parents for the 2018-2019 School Year
Please consider signing up to be homeroom parent for your child’s classroom. You would organize class parties and coordinate class families’ involvement in school fundraisers. You do not have to do all the work from scratch! A coordinator will provide you with a packet of tips and recommendations, as well as example emails and flyers that you can use. Speak to your child’s teacher at tomorrow’s Meet the Teacher. For more information, email

Become an Eagle Family Sponsor

Support Summitt’s Appreciation Team
Would you like to say “thank you” to everyone who makes your child’s school week a good experience? Want to show your appreciation for Summitt’s staff, but don’t know how you’d thank them all? Become a part of Summitt’s Appreciation Team. Last school year the team created “thank yous” for over 60 Summitt staff and non-homeroom teachers. The team relies on donations of time and supplies from the Summitt community to create posters and goody baskets for staff. Please help the team make every appreciation week a special one:

  • Email if you want to help plan appreciation weeks.

  • Sign up to bring goodies for appreciation days. Look for links to online signups in the weekly newsletter and in emails from your child’s class homeroom parent.

  • Contact if you or a business you work for are able to sponsor an appreciation week. Last year one Summitt parent’s employer gave metal water bottles with beanies inside for the crossing guards. We’d love to have items like that or modest gift cards from a restaurant or store a Summitt family owns or works for.

  • Donate cash or gift cards to Dollar Tree, Walmart, Target, HEB, or Michael’s to help the team purchase decorating supplies or the last few items not taken in a signup. (Contact
