Skate night tonight
Come join your Summitt friends tonight for the last skate night of the school year, 6-8:30PM at Playland Skate Center, 8822 McCann Drive. All proceeds from this skate night will benefit the robotics/technology program at Summitt! Which grade level will have the most skaters? Come find out! It’s $5 per skater.

Rita’s Ice
Rita’s Italian Ice will be available on Friday, May 22 at 2:30 p.m. It’s $3/cup.

Yearbook sale
Has your child brought home the yearbook? The last 10 copies of the yearbook are being shipped to us from the printers and should be here next week. They will be sold on a first-come first-serve basis on Wednesday, May 27 at 2:30 PM. It’s $25. NO yearbooks were sold at Meet the Teacher at the beginning of the school year, so buy one before they’re sold out.

Message from Technology
We will be sending home all student headphones at the end of the year. Please remind your child/ren to be aware of where their set is located and that they will be responsible for getting them home by the last day of school. If you did not purchase a set at Meet the Teacher in August, then remind your child/ren to bring home any sets that they may have taken from home to use for the year.

If your 5th grade student no longer wants their headphones they can donate them to the school. Any headphones left after the last day will be donated to the school. We will have headphones available for sale again in August for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Other grades do not need headphones. If you need a replacement you can purchase them at Meet the Teacher night or you can send headphones or ear buds from home as long as they stay at school for the year. – Another wild and exciting CATCH Family Fun Night is in the books! Thanks so much for coming out! A big thanks goes out to Anderson High School Wrestling and Lacrosse, Trojans Pop Warner ( , Yes Youth Fitness and Sports Performance ( , Tina Lamon, and Zumba extraordinaire Tina Lovelace Ross ( for having wonderful booths and activities for the kiddos!!

Thanks to Modern Woodmen of America ( for donating all of our free jump ropes and the Summitt PTA for donating the Toms toothpaste samples! We also appreciate Whole Foods at the Domain and HEB at North Mopac and Parmer for donating gift cards for our raffle. Our 11 winners were announced at Friday morning’s assembly!

Lastly, I would like to thank Coach Woodward, Mrs. Richey, our custodians and the 5th grade Fuel Up to Play 60 Team for all of your support!! I will put information from all of our participants in the Great Hallway on our activity table. I highly recommend the lacrosse, wrestling, Pop Warner, and Yes! summer camps! Thanks again!

– Summitt’s “Hero Up” Field Day is fast approaching! Kinder, 1st and 2nd grade students will have their field day on Thursday, May 28th. Then 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will have their field day on Friday, May 29th.

There will be 10 stations set up for the morning each day from 8:30-11:00 am. Pre-K will participate in a few stations at 11 am on Thursday. Lunch schedules will be slightly altered both days, so please check with your child’s teacher if you are planning to come by.

The afternoon of each field day will be set up like last year. Each grade level that had field day in the morning will come to the gym for 45 minutes in the afternoon for movie and snack time. PTA will be selling snacks (50 cents each) and Rita’s Ice ($3) as an end of the year fundraiser.

The 5th grade students will be running the stations for our K-2 students on Thursday, but we do need volunteers to run stations for our older kids on Friday. Please email me at ( if you would like to volunteer. Also, if you are able to donate water bottles, juice boxes or packs of chalk for our “Regeneration”(break) station to be used during Field Day… it would be greatly appreciated! Please bring those to the gym as soon as possible. Thanks so much for your continued support!

Field Day concession stand volunteers
During Summitt Field Day on May 28th and May 29th snacks will be for sale at a concession stand with all proceeds benefiting Summitt PTA. Items such a chips, crackers, cookies, fruit snacks, Capri Suns and water bottles will be 50 cents each. Rita’s Italian Ice will also be available for $3/cup. Library News
Thank you for your overwhelming support of our Spring Book Fair! It was a huge success and one of the library’s big fundraisers for the upcoming school year. All the money raised will go right back into library programming for our students.

I could not have pulled it off without the help of some amazing parent volunteers–Karla Kreitler, Lisa Domzalski, Evette Alvarado, Jessica Pedemonte, Kina Cifra, Diana George, Lynn Anderton, and Kersten Stewart to name a few. Also thanks to WatchDOGS James Walters and Mark Dorsey for their help shelving and put together the awesome decor!

Library books are due this Friday, May 22. Please check those back seats, back packs, book shelves and under the bed for any books with a Summitt Library barcode. Thanks so much!

Vietnamese Advisory Council meeting
AISD Vietnamese Advisory Council meeting: May 26th from 5 pm – 6:30 pm in the library.

Vietnam Trip meeting
There will be a meeting for those who are going on the Vietnam trip on Thursday, May 28, 4:15 – 5:15 pm in the library.

Lion and Dragon dance team recognition
Congratulations to our Summitt Lion/Dragon dancers, Taiko drummers, and Martial Arts teams. They have been nominated for the GAACC 2015 Outstanding Asian Community Organization award by the Greater Asian Chamber of Commerce. Our students have been instrumental in enriching cultural diversity in the Austin community through lion/dragon dancing, Taiko drumming and martial arts and promoting Asian culture. Our students will be recognized at the GAACC Ovation Gala award on Friday, May 29th at the Hyatt Regency Austin. Congratulations!

End of year picnic
Everyone is invited to the annual Vietnamese Dual Language Program End of the Year Picnic on Saturday, May 30 from 11 am- 2 pm. It will be at the Summitt Elementary playground. Bring a dish to share and enjoy the last weekend before school ends.

Fifth grade news
Attention Future Matadors! Matador Transition Camp is free for all incoming students new to Murchison IB World Middle School. Students will rotate through a series of fun and interactive sessions designed to introduce the newest Matadors to our great campus. Activities include a campus-wide scavenger hunt, field day activities and many more. Meet friends, play games, and learn about middle school! Learn about how to make your first year at Murchison a success! Choose a session that works for you.

Session 1
August 3rd, 4th, 5th
9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

AISD Budget presentation
Austin ISD wants your feedback about the district’s preliminary budget. Throughout the month of May, AISD will host community budget conversations to discuss strategic investment in priorities, projected shortfalls, long-range financial planning and proposed budget reductions.

Four in-person conversations will be held at campuses. Community members can also take part in a tele-townhall on May 20, during which participants can listen to a budget presentation and submit questions. The presentation closest to Summitt is at Doss Elementary on Thursday, May 28. Childcare, refreshments and interpretation services will be provided at in-person conversations. Help with Summitt communications
If you are interested in being a part of the Summitt Communications Team, we would love to talk to you! The team handles the Newsletter (emailed announcements) which is sent out each week, the school website, Facebook and Twitter accounts. They have a great system in place and can train you. Register your student for next school year
To enroll ON-LINE for the 2015-2016 school year: Parents can register students for the 2015-2016 using an online tool available from the AISD Cloud found at ( . This new process will help save parents/guardians valuable time by eliminating the need to fill out the many paper forms and allows the parent/guardian to better manage the information the district has on file for their student.

A Parent Cloud account is required to access this new registration tool. Go to ( to sign up for one. Short videos are available to guide you through a New Student Registration or a Returning Student Registration. For these helpful videos SELECT

If you are unsure which school your child will attend, call the Office of Student Services 414-1726 or view school assignments online. Information regarding the enrollment of students in foster care or under the guardianship of DFPS can be found at

Parents that do not wish to utilize the online system for new to AISD students can complete paper enrollment forms that were sent home this week.

Looking Ahead to Fall Fest
We are looking for people interested in helping with Fall Fest next year. If you are interested in volunteering or have questions please contact Jill Maxfield ( or Lisa Fischer at ( . Fall Fest is starting to look for donations of gently used toys and books for next year. Trojans Pop Warner Football and Cheer clinics
Trojans Pop Warner Registration Open through May 31, 2015 for football and cheer participants ages 5-12 years. Football and Cheer Clinics will be held on Sunday, May 17 at Anderson High School from 4-6PM at the practice fields. There will be a uniform fitting and optional skills clinic. Anderson Soccer Camp
The Anderson High School Boys and Girls Summer Soccer Camp will be held on June 15-18. U5-U9 players will meet from 8:30-11:30 am and U10-U14 players will meet from 5-8 pm. It’s a great opportunity to be taught by the Anderson HS soccer coaches and get to work with the Anderson HS soccer players. This is the sixth year for the camp and it has been a fantastic success with outstanding reviews from both players and parents. Cost is $110 ($100 if registered/paid before June 1) and includes a camp t-shirt, soccer ball and 12 hours of quality instruction. Summer camps at Anderson
Looking for fun camps for your student this summer? Consider camp at Anderson High School. There are many camps for elementary (and older) students this summer: cheer, theater, tennis, football, volleyball, dance, and more. Check out the page with listings:

Anderson Softball camp
The Anderson High School Softball Coaching Staff will conduct a softball camp for girls going into 4th grade to incoming freshmen. The instruction will include fielding, throwing, hitting, and base-running. There will also be position specific instruction. The camp will be conducted on the Anderson High School softball practice field. Registration form is here:

Water will be provided for campers throughout the camp. All campers will be given a Trojan Softball t-shirt on the last day of the camp. The registration fee for the Trojan Softball Camp is $100.00 per participant. Participants are required to provide their own transportation, shorts, shoes and shirts. You may register in advance by completing this registration form and returning it to Coach Davis by June 10th , 2015.
