Library News
I am so excited about a fantastic second semester. We have so much planned that I’m not even sure where to start.

To all my 4th and 5th graders, we are still accepting Read to Succeed reading logs to earn a free ticket to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. All you have to do is read 6 extra hours and fill out the log. Yes, you can count reading you did over the break! Stop by the library to pick up your log if you need one. Your parents will thank you this summer.

For pre-K students, our Eager Eagle Readers Incentive Program will begin next Monday, January 12. Information and book baggies will go out in Monday folders. By reading each night, your student will have a chance to earn prizes and even be invited to the Eager Eagle Reader celebration in May. Be on the look out for more information.

And for all our Summitt readers, January 23rd will be the kick-off assembly for our Bookspring Read-a-Thon! All students are invited to be book heroes as readers all over the city work to raise money for this amazing literacy support program. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be explaining the program to our students. Following that, information will be sent home. Be on the look-out–this is a great reading resolution for all our students to work towards.

Happy news! Our sweet guinea pig, Shelley, was given a sweet friend and companion. Her new little friend needs a name. Stop by and meet this cute furry “friend” and add your suggestion to the name jar.

Read to Succeed
All 4th & 5th grade students who are participating in the Read To Succeed program – don’t forget the deadline for turning in your reading log is Friday, January 9th. Read to Succeed allows students to earn a free ticket to Six Flags Fiesta Texas for reading 6 hours or more over the holiday break.

No Place for Hate activity
Students are invited to participate in an art project where they Visualize a World Without Hate. The art will be displayed beginning January 19, 2015, on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, to launch No Name Calling Week, a No Place For Hate activity. Please go to http://www.adl.org/imagine/ to see the video from the Anti-Defamation League that sparked this activity.

Pictures for Yearbook
We are now accepting pictures for the 2014-2015 Summitt Yearbook. Please send photos of class parties, scout group pictures, and other event pictures to yearbook@summitteagles.org (mailto:yearbook@summitteagles.org) . Please indicate the event and class or group for each picture. Please send only pictures where the people pictured have agreed to the publication of the picture.

Teacher workroom volunteers
The teacher workroom needs more volunteers. The teachers need help making copies, laminating and various other jobs. If you have some spare time during the week to help out our hardworking teachers, please contact nicoleerin@outlook.com (mailto:nicoleerin@outlook.com) to see how you can get involved.
