Congratulations to Ms. Heather Fleming (5th grade) and Ms. Kimberly Coppola (5th grade) for being National Board Certified Teachers at AISD’s annual Salute to teachers awards. Congratulations to Ms. Coppola for being Summitt’s teacher of the year and to Ms. Kristen Banovic (pre-K) for being named a Teacher of Promise at AISD. Summitt has awesome teachers!

Parking reminder

Please remember as the school year draws near to an end that the Brigadoon Condos parking areas are not a place for Summitt parents to drop-off or pick-up their child(ren). There are no trespassing signs posted for this private residential area. Also, please remember to not park near the fire hydrants or red painted curbing areas. You could be ticketed or towed from these areas.

PE News
Thanks to everyone for their team effort to get Field Day moved indoors last week! I think the kids had a fantastic time! I appreciate all the parents who donated water and ice pops, those who came and asked what they could do to help, and especially the parents that came to cheer on their kids and modeled some great examples of sportsmanship!

I would like to say a huge thank you to Joe Lang and Sharon Reed for volunteering all day! Also, thanks to all the 5th graders who did a great job being leaders for the day and to their parents for getting them to school by 7 am! Y’all rock!! Field day would not have been so wonderful without the help of all of the Special area teachers, the custodians, the front office and administrative staff, and all the amazing teachers who went with the flow! It was our first time to move Field Day indoors… it may have been a bit chaotic, but it was a great day!! Thanks again for your cooperation!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Comsudi and Coach Sheppard

– Parents of incoming Murchison 6th Graders you are invited to a Hot Topic Informational Conversation
on Tuesday, May 21 at 8:30 a.m. in the Murchison Middle School cafeteria. Here’s a brief overview:
Digital Down Low: is a venture that licensed counselor and AHS Vertical Team parent Libba Skarnulis has put together to help parents navigate the thrilling but treacherous waters of social media with their tweens and teens. Her information and approach is well-suited for the new or less-experienced user and perfect for our parents of incoming 6th graders (as well as current 6th graders). She is fabulous and has lots of down-low on the current apps and platforms kids are now using and you will love her.
MMS Down Low: Following a 30 minute presentation, Mrs. Skarnulis will remain available for questions from parents, but Sammi Harrison will open a casual Q&A with all parents helping to resolve any MMS transition issues or questions they may have. Click here for information.

The recent tragedy in Boston has left many parents wondering how a teen could be capable of such violence. Find expert advice on why some teens resort to violent behavior, and get tips on how to talk to your teen about threats to his safety. Click here for more information.
